DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The principal function of an employee in this class is to maintain, service, and repair a variety of mechanical, electrical, and electronic parts and equipment at the City's Wastewater Plant to ensure safe and efficient plant operation. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisor, other City employees, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in a wastewater treatment plant environment, which includes exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme heights, and dangerous machinery.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Essential Functions Statement(s)
* Performs a variety of general repairs of mechanical, electrical, and electronic parts and equipment of the Wastewater Plant, including repairing pumps, boiler, blower, and other related equipment to maintain the flow process of the City's sewer system.
* Performs a variety of preventive maintenance of plant equipment at scheduled time intervals as required, including checking belts, bearings, seal leaks, changing oil and lubricants, and repairing or replacing worn or damaged parts as necessary.
* Provides basic maintenance and repair of electrical components on plant equipment, including troubleshooting and diagnosing problems as necessary.
* Maintains complete and accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including maintaining records of used parts, stock items, and labor hours as required.
* Maintains an efficient inventory of necessary parts and equipment to ensure efficient plant operations and cost efficiency.
* Performs tests of equipment following maintenance and repairs to ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment as required.
* Operates a variety of hand and power tools, and other maintenance related vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to welder, cutting torch, backhoe, forklift, and hydro cleaner truck.
* Performs a variety of basic plant operations activities as requested. Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions.
* Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned.
* Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.
SKILLS/ABILITIES Ability to work in physically demanding conditions. Ability to efficiently operate and repair wastewater service-related equipment as required, including hand and power tools, vehicle and related machines and equipment. Ability to efficiently perform required tasks from the direction of blueprints, diagrams, and sketches. Ability to perform accurate mathematical computations as required. Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language. Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions, use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions, and prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations. Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines. Integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE Substantial knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and materials used in mechanical maintenance and repair of water treatment plants Substantial knowledge of the principles of operation of pumps, motors, and other related wastewater treatment equipment. Substantial knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair. Substantial knowledge of the necessary safety measures precautions that must be observed when working in a wastewater treatment plant.
Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required
Experience: 1 plus years of experience in Industrial Mechanic or Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Computer Skills: Ability to operate or quickly learn to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks and the ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
Certifications & Licenses: Valid State of Idaho Class B Commercial Driver's License.
Other Requirements: Must live with a thirty-minute response time from the wastewater treatment plant. Must have or obtain a resident telephone within 30 days of employment.
