Job Title: Wastewater Treatment Plant / Hydro-blasting Technician
Department: Environmental, Health & Safety
Shift: 8-12 hour rotating shifts (may include nights, weekends, and holidays)
Job Overview:
The Wastewater Treatment Plant / Hydro-blasting Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and hydro-blasting activities. This role ensures compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations while supporting the production and maintenance of equipment at the Ascent Industries Co. site. The Technician will work closely with the Wastewater Supervisor, Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) team, and Plant Management to maintain plant operations and support environmental management practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations:
* Operate the WWTP under the direction of the WWTP Supervisor and/or EH&S Manager, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
* Monitor chemical supplies, ensuring all necessary containers are in place and stocked, and notify the Supervisor of any reorder needs.
* Conduct daily inspections of water retention dikes and manage wastewater treatment operations as required.
* Perform routine wastewater sampling and testing as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and as requested by EH&S.
* Communicate daily activities and any operational needs or issues with the Supervisor, maintenance, and management teams.
* Coordinate and report on stormwater sampling and wastewater analysis.
* Keep shift supervisors informed on the status of wastewater treatment operations, including any required tasks when the treatment is unattended.
* Assist with system repairs by notifying the Supervisor and/or Maintenance of any issues or required maintenance.
Hydro-blasting Operations:
* Safely operate high-pressure hydro-blasting equipment to clean reactors, tanks, drains, and other heavy industrial equipment.
* Work collaboratively with Plant Management, Supervision, and Engineering to schedule and coordinate hydro-blasting tasks.
* Clean industrial equipment such as reactor vessels, boilers, tanks, and heat exchangers.
* Maintain the cleanliness of facility assets, including plant infrastructure and tank farm containment areas.
* Assist EH&S with environmental cleanup, hazardous material handling, and transportation, including the preparation and management of hazardous waste.
General Responsibilities:
* Load hoses, chemicals, and equipment onto trucks for hydro-blasting operations.
* Ensure work areas and equipment are clean and organized after completing tasks.
* Strictly follow all health and safety guidelines to ensure safety is the top priority.
* Work in confined spaces and at heights, adhering to OSHA standards (29 CFR 1910.146).
* Support operations and maintenance teams as needed.
* Participate in continuous improvement programs to enhance site operations.
* Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and during production changeovers or emergencies as required.
Additional Duties:
* Perform other tasks as assigned by supervision and management.
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
* Education:
* High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
* Higher education or certifications in relevant fields (preferred)
* Experience:
* Minimum 3 years of experience in an industrial environment (required)
* Strong preference for candidates with wastewater treatment operations experience and/or certification
* Technical Skills:
* Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
* Knowledge of wastewater operations and environmental regulations
* Experience with high-pressure cleaning equipment (preferred)
* Certifications (Preferred):
* Hazardous materials technical level certification
* Hazardous materials transportation certification
* RCRA training (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response - HAZWOPER)
* Ability to meet OSHA respirator requirements
* Key Competencies:
* Strong organizational and communication skills
* Ability to work safely in confined spaces, at heights, and in hazardous environments
* Willingness to work flexible schedules, including rotating shifts and emergency situations
Physical Requirements:
* Must meet OSHA respirator requirements and be able to work in enclosed or confined spaces.
* Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and materials as needed.
* Comfortable working in a variety of environments, including exposure to chemicals, hazardous materials, and industrial equipment.
