Salary: $24.27 Hourly Location : 330 ONE ROD HIGHWAY, CT Job Type: FULL TIME Job Number: 2024-00043 Department: WATER POLLUTION CONTROL AUTHORITY Opening Date: 08/29/2024 GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES This is unskilled and limited semi skilled work at the Water Pollution Control Facility. Employee is responsible for the satisfactory performance of light and heavy manual laboring tasks throughout the plant and related facilities. Some assignments, including elementary equipment operation may require skills which can readily learned on the job. Usually assignments will be performed under the immediate direction of an employee in a higher classification, but many tasks may be routine and repetitive in nature and once learned, can be carried on without difficulty and under general supervision. Employee is ultimately responsible to the Superintendent and Maintenance Manager. The Water Pollution Control Facility operates on a seven day basis. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Employee will be required to lubricate and clean designated equipment, drive, load or unload designated trucks
  • Paints and performs other maintenance tasks as required.
  • Cut grass, weeds, brush, and trims bushes in designated areas.
  • Cleans all designated buildings and disposes of trash as required.
  • Removes snow from designated areas.
  • Washes and cleans all vehicles, tools and designated equipment.
  • Carries and gathers all materials, supplies, or tools in assistance to personnel as required.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Tasks may require exposure to strong odors, temperate weather extremes, dust, pollen, wetness, humidity, wildlife, height extremes, and vibrations.
  • Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate, though not constant, physical effort typically involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. May involve some lifting, carrying pushing and or pulling of objects and materials up to 100 lbs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Some knowledge in use of simple tools used in maintenance of equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow all oral and written instructions
  • Ability to act quickly and safely in emergency situations.
  • Ability to conduct oneself in a courteous and professional manner amongst staff and the public on a daily basis.
  • Ability to operate simple machinery.
  • Must have sufficient physical strength and agility and freedom from disabling defects to do heavy manual labor occasionally under adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be in good physical condition and able to do all jobs.
  • Must have sufficient physical strength to work in less than favorable conditions.
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have high school education or a GED.
  • Must have a valid Connecticut drivers license.
  • Must have basic mechanical repair knowledge.
  • Employee will be required to obtain a Class 2 CDL drivers license in order to advance to a higher classification.
  • Employee will be required to obtain a Class 1 Operators Certificate from the State of Conn. DEP within 30 months of hire date.
  • Tuesday through Saturday is considered the normal workweek for this position. Only 10% of the employee's vacation time may be taken on a Saturday.
SCHEDULE
  • Tuesday - Saturday, 7 am - 3 pm
PAY RANGE
  • Salary Grade 6 (plus 10 % Shift Differential)
