Wastewater Operator B, Operator C or Operator Trainee
Under general supervision, performs specialized skilled work for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Division of the Public Works Department. Work involves assuring proper operation and maintenance of Wastewater Treatment Plant to meet water quality standards for the protection of health and environment. Reports to the Foreman.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Operates pumps, motors, grit collectors, clarifiers, trickling filters, chemical feed equipment, belt press, flow meter, etc.; performs process control and compliance testing, etc.; maintains supply inventory; collect samples.
Performs a variety of tasks including maintenance of equipment and facilities, preventive and corrective work, housekeeping, and grounds keeping, confined space work. Performs records keeping of daily operations records, daily work records, SMX records, chemical logs, sample manifests, and work orders. Provides for security and safety. Maintains occupational certification and commercial drivers license. Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as laboratory reports, work schedules and orders, and sample schedules. Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as daily work records, daily operations record, punch time clock, work orders, preventive maintenance schedule, and weekly meter readings.
Refers to TCEQ permit, plant operations and maintenance manual, plant drawings, plant schematics, MSDS catalog, training manuals, policy manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications, and reference texts, etc.
Operates a variety of machines and equipment such as pumps and process equipment, computer, shop equipment, welders, torches, power tools, pickup truck, boats, cranes and hoists, mowers, etc.
Uses a variety of tools such as laboratory instruments and apparatus, shop, and maintenance tools, etc.; a variety of supplies such as water treatment chemicals, lubricants and fuels, housekeeping supplies, etc.; and a variety of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, SCADA System, etc.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Foreman, other Operators, supervisors, Laboratory Technicians, Instrument Technicians, vendors, Police, and the General public.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a high school diploma or GED; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Requires a valid TCEQ Class B Operators License or TCEQ Class C Operators License or acquisition of a TCEQ Class C Operators License within two years.
Requires a valid Texas Commercial Drivers License or the acquisition of same within three months.
Physical Requirements:
Lift (80 pounds) from floor to knuckle height and carry up to 15 feet. Lift from floor to knuckle height a manhole cover weight up to 80 pounds. Employee lifts/carries up to 100 pounds occasionally (less than 5% of the time or 1-100 time per day). Employee lifts/carries 20 pounds frequently (34%-66% of the time of 100-500 times per day). Employee lifts/carries 10 pounds constantly (67%-100% of the time or over 500 times per day). Employees positions require pushing a maximum force of 20 pounds. Employees position requires pulling a maximum force of 20 pounds. Climb stairs and ladders (including water towers).
Salary: D.O.Q. SIGN ON BONUS: $1,000.00-SPLIT (FOR TCEQ WW LICENSE- CLASS C OR HIGHER)
Hours: 8AM 5PM Monday - Friday
