The Plant Operator will work under the general supervision of the Chief Wastewater Plant Operator and/or the Utilities Operations Manager.***10% ADDITIONAL IF DUAL WATER/WASTEWATER OPERATOR LICENSE!*** Examples of Duties
- Monitors and adjusts the performance of all equipment, gauges and charts in the wastewater treatment plant; records statistical data concerning plant operations; maintains, operates, repairs, and replaces equipment as necessary; charts lab test results for trend analysis and maintains accurate records of analysis and test results; evaluates data and writes reports as required
- Operates, maintains, and repairs malfunctions at the wastewater treatment plant. Repairs gauges, pumps, filters, and other controls and equipment
- Collects all samples and identifies concentrations of chemical, physical, or biological characteristics of water required in accordance with local, state, and Federal requirements. Gathers and tests water samples for plant efficiency as required. Monitors water quality and checks turbidity, chlorine, and fluoride levels
- Performs quality control tests on lab equipment and lab analyses; evaluates procedures and results for accuracy and determines appropriate methods
- Assures that plant operates within required standards and all routine equipment adjustments as necessary
- Trains (as needed) lesser skilled wastewater treatment plant operators for plant operational procedures, sampling and maintenance operations
- Calibrates, modifies or repairs all instrumentation and control equipment including but not limited to chart recorders, chlorination equipment, high-service pumps, well pumps, SCADA controls, ground storage tanks, elevated storage tanks, buildings, and structures
Typical Qualifications
- Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver's License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Must possess a State of Florida Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's License - Class A
- Valid Commercial Driver's License Class B (CDL B)
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Two (2) years technical training in biology, environmental science, chemistry or a closely related field (two-year college degree preferred)
- Five (5) years of experience in a wastewater utility or any equivalent combination of education and experience as deemed acceptable
