Salary : $40,776.00 - $58,075.00 AnnuallyLocation : Victoria, TXJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 22-00203Department: Public Works, WastewaterDivision: Wastewater Treatment PlantOpening Date: 01/18/2024JOB SUMMARY The City of Victoria is currently searching for our next Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator (WWTPO) The successful candidate is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the City of Victoria's wastewater treatment plants and lift stations. The WWTPO ensures that the final waste complies with all Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) rules and regulations. This is a non-exempt position. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Under general supervision, performs all phases of wastewater treatment.
  • Is responsible for maintaining the final waste stream so that it meets or exceeds all requirements set by the EPA and TCEQ.
  • Ensures correct dosage application by monitoring and adjusting all process chemicals.
  • Performs various process testing as needed.
  • Schedules plant testing as required by the permits.
  • Oversees the arrival and unloading of chemicals.
  • Collects data and enters into databases, maintains plant records and produces reports as needed.
  • Performs a preventative maintenance program to minimize breakdowns and repairs.
  • Conducts and records, on a routine basis, analyses at all stages of treatment process.
  • Conducts special studies as required.
  • Performs public relations activities such as responding to customer complaints or conducting tours of the treatment plant.
  • Answers phone, dispatches calls, relays information, and makes decisions on weekends and after hours.
  • Assists with process modifications as needed.
  • Conducts/attends monthly safety programs as required. Performs duties in a safe and orderly manner, complying with all City and department safety rules.
  • Manages trucked waste, haulers permits and monitoring.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned or as become apparent.
  • Ability to get along with other employees and the public.
  • Subject to callback work and revolving shift schedule.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Ability to drive a vehicle to and from various work sites. Employee will work in extreme temperatures, bending, kneeling, squatting, twisting and climbing in order to perform duties. Employee will frequently lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Any weight that exceeds 50 pounds will be a two man lift per department policy. Employee will be exposed to potential mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards. Employee will be exposed to and work in dirt, dust, noise, fumes, odors, water and mud. Must be able to see and distinguish different hues of discoloration in water. Fine manipulation with hands and fingers to prepare samples and to operate and calibrate analyzers. Must be able to hear and communicate verbally, both in person and over radio and telephone. Employee will work with inert and highly toxic chemicals. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:Ability to read, understand and utilize work orders, gauges, meters chemical reports, manuals, computers and other operating, measuring and testing devices. Ability to perform chemical analysis on wastewater samples, interpret results and make proper adjustments to treatment processes. Skilled in use and maintenance of treatment plant equipment. Thorough knowledge of the Rules and Regulations for Publicly Owned Treatment Works and the Wastewater Standards . Must be able to perform and oversee concurrent multiple tasks, exercise good judgement, problem solve under stress, perform complex algebraic math problems related to processes, and safely handle toxic chemicals. Minimum Education, Experience and Certification:High school diploma or GED and three years current experience in wastewater treatment plant operations. Grade C Wastewater Operators Certification issued by the TCEQ is required. Experience in handling/using chlorine and other caustic, toxic, and corrosive supplies and chemicals. Valid Texas Class B Commercial driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsements is preferred and a driving record that meets City guidelines. Must be able to obtain a Class B Commercial driver's license within 6 months of employment.
