Department: Municipal Wastewater Treatment

Overview: The Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to join our team. This critical role involves the comprehensive operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment facility that processes approximately 600,000 gallons of wastewater per day. The ideal candidate will possess a valid New Jersey Grade 4 Wastewater Operator certification and demonstrate exceptional technical proficiency in advanced wastewater treatment processes, as well as a commitment to environmental sustainability and public health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Excellence: Oversee the day-to-day operation of the wastewater treatment plant, ensuring adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as facility standards.
  • Process Monitoring: Continuously monitor and control plant processes and equipment, including pumps, valves, chemical feed systems, and filtration units, to optimize treatment efficiency and performance.
  • Inspection and Maintenance: Conduct thorough inspections of treatment systems and equipment, proactively identifying and addressing operational issues to minimize downtime and maintain compliance with permit requirements.
  • Sampling and Analysis: Collect, prepare, and analyze water samples to assess treatment effectiveness and ensure compliance with regulatory standards, documenting results accurately for reporting purposes.
  • Routine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on all equipment and machinery, coordinating with maintenance teams as necessary to ensure optimal operational functionality.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous records of operations, maintenance activities, compliance data, and inventory levels, preparing detailed reports for regulatory agencies and internal review.
  • Training and Development: Assist in the training and mentoring of junior operators and staff members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Emergency Response: Actively participate in emergency response activities, including spill response and other incidents, ensuring the safety of personnel and compliance with environmental regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Certification: Current New Jersey S- Grade 4 Wastewater Operator certification is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of [insert years, e.g., 3-5 years] of hands-on experience in wastewater treatment operations, preferably within a municipal setting.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Capacity to work in confined spaces and in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be physically fit to perform tasks associated with plant operations, including climbing ladders, operating heavy machinery, and navigating challenging environments.
