THE POSITION

Are you looking to gain the skills necessary to operate and maintain wastewater treatment facilities? The Department of Human Services is currently seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with experienced operators to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Clarks Summit State Hospital wastewater treatment plant. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will assist certified operators with all sewage and water treatment activities for a system with a design flow of 385,000 gallons. Through both classroom instruction and hands-on experience, you will learn to operate essential equipment and perform laboratory monitoring and record-keeping to ensure the wastewater effluent meets required quality standards. Additionally, you will support the maintenance, operation, and regulatory compliance efforts to provide safe drinking water and ensure that treated discharge water meets acceptable regulatory levels. As part of your training, you will work toward certification in wastewater treatment plant operation, gaining a comprehensive understanding of relevant regulations and laws. You will also train to earn the appropriate certification for the plant class and type, as issued by the PA State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater System Operators.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

* Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week

* Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Sunday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.

* You will work a rotating schedule, including weekends and holidays.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

* Six months of building maintenance or trades experience; or

* An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

* You must obtain, within the probationary period, a valid Operator's Certificate, or an Operator in Training Designation issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater System Operators as a wastewater treatment plant operator that is equal to or greater than the classification and sub classification of the wastewater system to be operated or maintained. (Class C-subclass 1 sewage license)

* This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
