Water Distribution Operations Supervisor
Colorado Springs Utilities is hiring a Water Distribution Operations Supervisor to lead a team of skilled Water Distribution System Operators who ensure the safe and reliable operations of our potable, non-potable, and raw water distribution systems. You will have the opportunity to perform skilled activities related to operating, inspecting, maintaining, and troubleshooting systems and equipment that support our water distribution systems. You will leverage your mechanical and operational skills and knowledge to ensure the effective operations of our systems and their components, which is critical to the safe and reliable transmission of water to over 500,000 people in the Colorado Springs community.
A day in the life of a Water Distribution Operations Supervisor may include:
Developing and promoting a safety culture within Water Distribution Operations
Leading a crew of Water Distribution System Operators through providing feedback, coaching, developing others' talents and skills, and managing performance
Ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and safety procedures pertaining to water distribution systems and operations
Inspecting worksites and verifying personnel, equipment, and supply requirements are met
Investigating damage to the distribution system by internal staff and third parties
Utilizing computers and various software programs to monitor system data and performance
Attending project meetings to provide input and direction regarding our distribution system
Coordinating water distribution system outages
Serving as the Operator Responsible in Charge (ORC) for the water distribution system for Colorado Springs
Please note that this position requires overseeing responses to emergency situations, which include locating, identifying, and evaluating emergencies for immediate repair, to include 24-hour on-call duties and rotating shift work of teams.
Who You Are
Demonstrated experience in the operations and maintenance of water distribution and/or collection systems
Possession of a Level 4 Colorado State Water Distribution Certification
Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license

Knowledge of and experience with water distribution and/or collection systems including raw water, potable water, and non-potable water
Knowledge of pump operations, including pump curves, efficiencies, and technologies
Skilled in water distribution/collection systems troubleshooting techniques, maintenance, repair, and operations
Ability to lead, mentor, collaborate, prioritize, and plan effectively
Ability to provide technical guidance to staff and contractors
Ability to read and understand maps, construction drawings, specifications, and as-builts
