Overview:
The YMCA is seeking an enthusiastic Water Exercise Instructor to teach a variety of classes. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Water Exercise Instructor will conduct water fitness classes with an emphasis on health and well-being for participants of all ages.

Responsibilities:
- Lead water fitness class following YMCA Water Fitness Instructor Guidelines, protocols.
- Provide music that meets YMCA standards.
- Enforce aquatic rules and policies.
- Record and maintain attendance records.
- Set up facility or equipment, store equipment, and secure facility upon completion of class.
- Prepare progressive exercise plans.
- Secure qualified substitute instructor when needed.
- Act as a Primary Responder in case of injury, accident, or illness in pool area and provide backup to lifeguards as needed in emergencies and crowd control.
- Report injuries and complete required forms.
- Support and follow YMCA policies and decisions and answer member questions about the YMCA and its programs and fitness-related questions.
Qualifications:
- Applicant must be at least 18 years of age and have high school diploma or equivalent
- Preferred National Accredited Water Fitness Instructor Certification (AEA)
- At least 6 months experience as a fitness class participant or 4 weeks team-teaching a fitness class
- General knowledge of exercise training and leadership, including basic anatomy, physiology, and exercise principles
- Physically fit to demonstrate all phases of aerobic exercises
- Able to hear and follow the beat of the music and have visual ability to observe class participants during workout. Provide music that meets YMCA standards
- Able to vocalize cues and use equipment properly
- Mentally alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents
- CPR, AED, First Aid and O2 certifications
- Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively
- Physical mobility to properly use aquatic equipment to rescue a 200lb. person
