Salary : $41,600.00 AnnuallyLocation : Princeton, TXJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 202100008Department: Public WorksDivision: WaterOpening Date: 10/09/2024DescriptionThe purpose of this position is to ensure the efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Employees in this classification perform skilled, manual-level work. The position is responsible for setting manholes valves and fire hydrants, making taps, laying new sewer and water mains, and operating heavy equipment. This position works under the direction of the Director of Public Works. Essential Functions
  • Read Water Meters as needed.
  • Checks and maintains equipment to ensure proper function.
  • Makes water and sewer taps and installs sewer cleanouts.
  • Installs, services, and upgrades water and wastewater mains and lines.
  • Installs and repairs sewer manholes.
  • Installs valves and fire hydrants. Paints and maintains fire hydrants.
  • Ensures the safe operating conditions of the worksite, i.e., traffic hazards, equipment operation, required barricades, road and site areas.
  • Raises lowers and repairs valve boxes; installs water meters; installs valve boxes.
  • Locates breaks, leaks, and clogs in utility lines for repair.
  • Serves as call out crew, as needed.
  • Operates equipment such as backhoes, front-end loaders, jet trucks, and dump trucks in the performance of tasks as qualified.
  • Excavates trenches for main placement; applies temporary patches to street surface following repair.
  • Assist other departments as necessary.
  • Attendance; regular and timely attendance during assigned work hours. After-hours and weekend work are required as necessary.
  • Deadlines; ability to set and meet appropriate deadlines. Timely follow-up and follow-through with staff and others. Effectively multi-task and work under time pressure and deadlines.
  • Communication & Record Keeping; ability to read, comprehend and effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, in English. Communicate effectively and professionally with staff, volunteers, council, and others.
  • Financial; ensure all expenditures are within budget. Utilize corporate credit cards ethically and responsibly. Submit receipts monthly. Ensure all financial functions, recordkeeping, and reporting are performed timely and accurately and that records as properly created and maintained.
  • Policies & Procedures; perform duties by City policies, procedures, standards, and comply with local, state, and federal law.

QualificationsHigh School diploma or GED equivalent; supplemented by one year (1) previous experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience involving the plumbing trade or water/wastewater line repair. TCEQ Collection I-Sewer certificate or equivalent. May be required to obtain a TCEQ Class C distribution certificate. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening, physical and criminal background check. Must possess a valid State of Texas Driver's License, reliable transportation, and ability to drive; maintain and provide proof of liability insurance. Have and maintain a professional, inviting, and friendly demeanor. Must have a working cell phone and the ability to respond to after-hours calls. Supplemental InformationADA COMPLIANCE Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds). Some tasks require visual and odor perception and discrimination. Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination and oral communications ability. Environmental Factors: Exposure to certain environmental conditions may be necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, including; Over two-thirds of the on-the-job time; wet or humid conditions; working near moving, mechanical parts; working in high, previous places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; extreme heart; vibration.
