Salary : $33,219.82 - $45,683.04 AnnuallyLocation : Alexandria, LouisianaJob Type: ClassifiedDivision: UtilitiesDepartment: Water ProductionOpening Date: 11/25/2024Closing Date: ContinuousFLSA: Non-ExemptDescriptionThe purpose of this classification is to operate, monitor, and maintain water production and treatment systems and related equipment to provide quality drinking water for public use in accordance with all established regulations, standards, and procedures. Work is performed under general supervision at the level allowed according to the certification held by the employee and training received; some tasks require direct oversight from Operators with a higher certification. This position is subject to 24-hour call. Examples of DutiesUtilizes computerized supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system and various tools and equipmentto monitor, regulate, and control water production and treatment system (wells, pumps, chemical feeders, agitators, etc.) and related equipment: monitors gauges, meters, equipment, and charts to ensure proper plant operations; determines proper dosage of chemicals for water system and administers additional chemicals when required; monitors distribution system and makes adjustments to maintain proper tank levels, water pressure, and overall supply; changes out chemical tanks; and makes adjustments in production operations and SCADA settings as appropriate.Conducts visual inspections of facilities, equipment, and well sites to ensure proper operations and to detect equipment failures, potential leaks, or other problem situations; reports faulty equipment or problem situations to appropriate personnel.Compiles, records, and maintains pertinent operational data in computer and paper logs; makes simple computations on standard forms.Installs, maintains and repairs mechanical and electrical equipment; completes work orders to document maintenance activities.Collects water samples for chemical analysis and chemical control testing: (e.g. hardness, pH, turbidity, alkalinity, and chlorine content); records all test results; recommends or makes adjustments to operations based on results as appropriate.Performs manual and unskilled cleaning/maintenance tasks to support operations and maintain equipment, tools, facilities and grounds around the well sites. Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.Assists in requisitioning, organizing and maintaining inventory of department equipment, chemicals, parts, and supplies.Communicates status of production operations to supervisor or other appropriate personnel; communicates with employees, other departments, service representatives, customers, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, provide assistance or resolve problems.Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and procedures through continuing education andprofessional affiliations; instructs apprentices in the water production and treatment operations and equipment. Typical QualificationsDESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in water plant operations preferred or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.High School Diploma or GED. Must maintain a functional telephone and be capable of responding to the site within one (1) hour of being notified. Must possess the State of Louisiana Class IV Water Production and Class IV Water Treatment certifications prior to completion of a seven (7) year apprentice period. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
