Licenses, Registration, and CertificationsWater Quality (Operations and Laboratory only):Colorado Water Distribution Operator Level 4 or Colorado Water Operator Class A or RMWQAA 3 preferred. Additionally, Leads must maintain supporting licenses/certifications that align with their expertise including:o Distribution Level 1 or Treatment Class D in addition to the RMWQAA 3 Other requirements (all disciplines):
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class R Colorado driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
- Requires HIPAA training.
Respiratory Protection Testing
- This position is subject to respiratory protection testing as directed per Denver Water Physician.
Job DescriptionPosition Summary The Water Quality Treatment Lead is an introductory supervisory position. Leads assist in scheduling and supervising a team (approximately two to six staff members) responsible for performing the duties essential to one of the following disciplines: water treatment, asset management, water quality operations or laboratory services. These teams support the production and protection of high-quality potable and non-potable water that meets all regulatory requirements and Denver Water's internal goals. Leads shall be capable of performing the essential duties assigned to their team as needed.Supervisory Responsibilities This is a working supervisor position with formal but limited supervisory responsibilities over other employees in a small team.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervision: Under general supervision, plans, schedules, and directs the activities of assigned personnel. Participates in supervising, supporting and ensuring the team is trained on the work. Prepares and conducts performance evaluations for direct reports, works with employees to correct deficiencies, and implement corrective actions if necessary. Participates and develops onboarding processes and hiring strategies for hiring new employees.
- Strategic Alignment: Align individual performance expectations with organizational goals. Communicates organizational, divisional, sectional and team messaging to direct reports and provides reciprocal feedback from the staff to leadership and the organization. Champions Continuous Improvement.
- Safety/Security: Monitors work to ensure safe and proper work practices and procedures are followed.
- Leadership Teamwork: Participates in Denver Water sponsored leadership meetings, various committees, projects, optimization activities and studies. Coaches staff to ensure teamwork and professional growth. Maintains a team mindset. Assist in other work as assigned to ensure service levels are met. May lead facility tours for internal and external customers.
- Management: Participate in preliminary budget preparation, supply and equipment ordering, and vendor communications. May serve as project manager on internal stakeholder project requests.
- QA/QC: Verify team is aligned with applicable quality control and quality assurance programs.
- Compliance: Ensure team's work complies with applicable federal and state regulations which may include but is not limited to the Safe Drinking Water Act, Clean Water Act, Colorado Regulations 11, 65, 84, 86, 100, and International Plumbing Code, and ABPA/ASSE testing procedures/principles.
- Field Work: May be required to perform on-call duty, emergency response, work shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as directed, and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Administration: Record keeping duties may include Safety Data Sheets, schedules, informational logs, operational logs, program compliance, Maximo and other records as assigned. Responsible for being familiar with team specific SOPs, including leading the creation of new SOPs and periodic updates.
Water Quality OperationsDepending on team assignment, Water Quality Leads lead their teams in collecting, reviewing and evaluating data to monitor water quality within the raw water, treatment plant and distribution systems, recommending and implementing further action as necessary. Water Quality Leads utilizes data management skills and quality assurance systems to evaluate data integrity, produce reports, interpret findings while having the ability to communicate this information to internal and external customers using audience appropriate technical and non-technical language. They ensure their team is trained and performing accurate and precise testing of all analyses in accordance with Quality Assurance Program, and capable of daily operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.Water Quality Leads contribute to and/or author experimental design and implementation of special environmental studies on issues that impact the water quality of: Lakes and reservoirs, watersheds, wetlands wildfires, rural development, groundwater, treatment, and distribution of potable and recycled water systems. They assist in the development of water quality programs for the watershed, groundwater, water treatment plants, distribution system, and cross connection control. Other job duties specific to team assignment include:
- Supervises, supports, and ensures team is trained in the daily operations of water quality monitoring and disinfection programs, system development, system improvement, cross connection control program, special event program, microbiology, and/or process laboratory related work;
- Maintains awareness of and incorporates new trends and developments in the field of water quality, water distribution systems, and operations.
- Attends pre-construction meetings and reviews as-built drawings related to system improvement and system development projects, and cross connection control.
