Login to Apply Water Safety InstructorJOB STATUS: UNTIL FILLED POSTING DATE: 06/10/2024 POSTING NUMBER: 00006594 LOCATION: Natatorium POSITION TITLE: Water Safety InstructorJOB DESCRIPTION:Primary Purpose: Responsible for planning and teaching group swim lessons.RESPONSIBILITIES:Major Responsibilities and Duties:* Plan and organize lessons that support the general teaching outlines provided by the Athletic Director and the American Red Cross Swimming Program.* Organize and direct activities of assigned students in order to provide a high level of quality instruction for all students.* Establish positive public relations with parents/guardians of students to help them recognize and understand swimming developments and achievements.* Enforce pool safety standards and facility operational rules for all individuals using district swimming facilities.* Assist with taking lane ropes in and out on a daily basis.* Help organize and assist in the development of special programs, activities or instruction.* Complete and submit records and documentation of completed lessons to the Athletic Director and the American Red Cross.* Work with the Athletic Director on an ongoing basis to improve and refine individual teaching skills related to teaching effective swimming lessons to various age groups and various skills levels.* Maintain an ongoing program of personal physical fitness.* Attendance at work is an essential function.* Perform other duties as assigned.EXPERIENCE:Minimum Experience:* One year of experience teaching American Red Cross swimming lessonsQUALIFICATIONS:Minimum Education/Certification:* American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor* American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer* American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid (preferred)* Valid Texas driver's license* Eligible for coverage under the district's vehicle insurance programSpecial Knowledge/Skills:* Swimming background knowledge* Thorough knowledge and application of swimming and water safety skills* Thorough knowledge and application of teaching swimming and water safety skills* Understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures* Leadership and public relations skills* Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skillsOTHER INFORMATION:Equipment Used: Computer, kick boards, bar bell floats, lifejackets, Shepard's crook, rescue tubes, spinal board, and other various swimming aids. Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over), pushing, reaching above shoulders, use of fingers, swimming, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, repeated bending, climbing, specific visual requirements (activity sufficient for reading/writing), Specific hearing requirements (activity sufficient to monitor children's safety).
