The Role:The Water Services System Technician - Wastewater Collections performs skilled, and semi-skilled construction, maintenance and repair work in the for the Water Services Department.

Duties will include operating light to heavy equipment such as 3-ton utility truck, backhoe, combination jetter and vacuum truck, dump truck, utility crane truck, hydro-excavation equipment and close circuit televising truck.

Salary:This position is:

* FLSA non-exempt, and will earn overtime for any hours worked over 40 in a week.

* A Grade 312 with with an hourly salary between $22.6404 - $33.9606

In addition to a generous salary, this position offers a $3,000* Hiring Bonus!

* Hiring Bonus to be paid as follows: $1,000 after 30 days of employment, $1,000 after 6 months of employment, and $1,000 after completion of 1 year probation. You must be an active employee at the time the hiring bonus is scheduled to be paid to receive the bonus. Current regular status City of Glendale employees are not eligible for hiring bonuses.

Holiday, Vacation, and Sick Leave:

Regular status positions offer:

* The City of Glendale observes 10.5 holidays per year, and full-time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave to celebrate their cultural or religious holidays throughout the calendar year.

* Vacation leave accrues at:

* 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours/17.25* days per year)

* Increases to 6.12 hours after 5 years

* Then caps out at 7.6 hours after 10 years of service.

* Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours/14.25 days* per year).

* Days per year estimates are based on an 8-hour work day.

Retirement:

This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).

* The current contribution rate is 12.27%.

* Contributions are mandatory, and are collected each pay period.

* Performs skilled and semi-skilled construction, maintenance, and repair work.

* Operate various light, medium, and heavy equipment including 3-ton utility truck, backhoe, combination jetter and vacuum truck, dump truck, utility crane truck, hydro-excavation equipment and Closed Circuit TV.

* Uses power and hand tools, light, and heavy equipment to accomplish tasks.

* Explains and enforces rules and regulations pertaining to safety, barricading, direction of traffic, hazardous materials, and operation of equipment.

* Maintains daily work records; perform computerized data entry work.

* Transports and sets up supplies and equipment; makes required safety checks.

* Installs, tests, maintains, and repairs water mains, sewer mains, services valves, fire hydrants, manholes and storm water facilities.

* Taps water mains and installs services, and water meters.

* Tests, repairs, maintains, replaces, and relocates existing large and small water meters.

* Performs water turn off/turn on for scheduled maintenance and emergencies.

* Responds/resolves high and no water usage complaints.

* Installs, pulls, relocates, testing, repairs, assembles, and reads water meters.

* Constructs and maintains large meter vaults and manholes.

* Excavates job sites, restores job sites to pre-work conditions.

* Investigates sewer odors, stoppages and roach requests including storm water related issues.

* Hydro cleans sewer and storm lines to remove obstacles.

* Assists in setting up, operating, and maintaining the closed circuit television equipment, and televising of sewer and storm lines.

* Operates city vehicles which require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

* Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years' experience in the operation of light to heavy equipment such as 3-ton utility truck, backhoe, combination jetter and vacuum truck, dump truck, utility crane truck, hydro-excavation equipment and close circuit televising truck.

Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.

Knowledge of:

* Rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to area of assignment

* Materials, tools, equipment, safety hazards and precautions common to the assigned areas of responsibility

* Confined space entry procedures

* Blue stake laws and underground utility identification practices

Ability to:

* Read and understand blueprints, technical diagrams, maps, and blue staking procedures

* Barricade work sites according to the Phoenix barricade manual

* Understand and follow safe working practices

* Understand and carry out oral and written instructions

* Notify residents and businesses of work being performed; answers questions from citizens

* Provide general direction to other employees and volunteers

* Deal courteously with the public, and co-workers

* Fill out reports and logs, and enter and retrieve information on computers

* Operate and understand atmospheric sensing devices

* Operate city vehicles which require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

Special Requirements:

* Arizona Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement is required within 90 days of hire.

* ADEQ Grade 1 Wastewater Collection System Operator is required within twelve (12) months of hire.

* Will be subject to call back and stand-by duty and may be subject to rotating shifts.

* Applicants will be required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy.
