May operate hand and power tools of all types, all heavy and light equipment, and may assist other workers, while performing duties safely and securely. Employee follows policies and procedures in carrying out their assignments. Completes reports. Services and repairs equipment and tools. Transports supplies and equipment to and from work site, and loads and unloads supplies and equipment. Essential Functions Maintenance and Repair Related Activities
- Receives work orders for repair and maintenance of water/sewer line.
- Performs locates for water and sewer lines in response to requests from other utilities.
- Performs water and sewer locates for own repair projects. Installs new water tap, pipe, or other equipment, assuring safety, accuracy and the best public relations for the City.
- Participates in the repair and maintenance of City water and sewer lines using a variety of tools, materials and supplies such as rock, dirt, concrete, and sod. Unclogs sewer or water lines using jet truck.
- Repairs or replaces water meters.
- Cleans or prepares sites to eliminate possible hazards.
- Receives signals from other equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials.
- Loads or unloads materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to directions.
- Assures equipment, pumps, and motors have the necessary fuel, lubricants, and supplies to function.
- Utilizes necessary equipment including hand and power tools such as shovel, picks, hammers, saws, and jackhammers, etc. as directed.
- Loads, unloads and maneuvers a variety of materials and equipment such as dirt, rock, pipes, meters, pumps, motors, and valves as directed.
- Reports hazards that cannot be corrected under ordinary maintenance.
- Responds to emergencies such as frozen or broken pipes or sewage backups, storms, floods, or other natural disasters.
- Performs traffic control activities, as needed, and observes roadway courtesies; follows safety regulations on all work zone and flagging sites, including placing barricades and cones; reports safety hazards and traffic problems.
- Checks on lift stations by physical and visual inspection, clearing debris from stations. Repairs and replaces pumps and motors that fail.
- Prepares information and measurements for main taps, water and sewer repairs, connections and cleanouts, filling in work-order documents as required.
- Turns water meters off and on.
- Flushes fire hydrants.
- Performs preventive maintenance including changing oil and filters, and lubricating and checking fluids, belts, hoses, tires, and brake systems.
- Ensures that all safety policies and regulations are followed and adhered to by self, others, and the public. Performs the functions of the job without posing a threat to the health and safety of others and self.
- Maintains accurate records of daily mileage, materials delivered, and equipment used by location and project.
- Performs effectively as a member of a team, carrying out the City's mission and philosophy.
- Maintains an awareness of all equipment and supplies needed for daily operation.
- Notifies the Missouri One-Call locater organization as needed to determine the location of other utilities. Loads trucks with needed supplies and equipment.
- Maintains an awareness of the preventive maintenance program. Conducts public maintenance on schedule, assuring safety.
Re-Reading Activities
- Receives orders, commutes to site, and makes a diagnosis of situation, assuring completeness.
- Notifies appropriate parties of potential leaks. Completes repairs properly, assuring safety.
- Answers questions and addresses the public's complaints and concerns, assuring courtesy and professionalism.
Quality Control Activities
- Collects water samples from distribution system and delivers to laboratory at wastewater plant for bacteriological analysis, assuring accuracy, best public relations, and public safety.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
- Performs mowing at the Cemetery.
- Performs water meter reading.
- Operates backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, pickup trucks, camera and vacuum equipment to excavate, clean, and repair water or sewer lines.
- Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid Class A CDL license.
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or G.E.D.; and three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with heavy machinary or construction.PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or four to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
