This entry level position performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the installation, inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair of water transmission, distribution and service lines. Reports to the Water Supervisor.
* Assembles equipment, tools and materials necessary to complete daily assignments.
* Locates utility lines and valves accurately.
* Performs routine and emergency maintenance and repair work on water transmission and distribution system, including but not limited to installing, inspecting and repairing water and sewer mains and service lines; extending lines; detecting and repairing leaks; cleaning sewer system, etc.
* Installs grass sod; repairs concrete/asphalt and mends fences as required at job sites.
* Performs all work in compliance with policies and procedures, regulations, specifications, schedules, and standards of quality and safety.
* Maintains accurate records of work in progress and records completed items.
* May be required to respond to after-hours emergency calls.
* Operates a vehicle, bobcat, backhoe, trucks, tractors, ditch witch, front-end loader, generator, pumps, jet cleaner, electronic locater, hand and power tools.
* Inspects and maintains assigned vehicles, equipment and tools.
* Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, other department employees, other City employees, contractors, customers.
* Performs related duties as assigned.
* High school diploma or GED and 2 years of experience in utility construction and maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
* Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
* Must obtain a Florida Water Distribution Level 3 license within 2 years of employment
* Must obtain a Florida Class B driver's license within 1 year of employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
* Knowledge of the principles and practices of the installation and maintenance of water transmission, distribution and service lines.
* Knowledge of related safety equipment and practices.
* Skill operating a variety of power tools and equipment related to the job.
* Ability to read and interpret maps and other written materials.
* Ability to respond to supervision, guidance and direction of superiors in a positive, receptive manner.
* Ability to communicate professionally with the public in-person, in writing, and on the telephone.
* Ability to assist fellow employees and provide customer service to the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires demanding physical effort that may include frequent standing or walking and heavy lifting up to 100 pounds. Frequent crouching, kneeling, bending, and stooping. May occasionally require extraordinary physical activity.
