Primary RoleControls treatment plant pumps and equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption and for industrial use.#LI-LS1
Key Accountabilities - Operates and controls electric motors, pumps, and valves to establish, maintain and control flow through the water purification process and into and within the distribution system.
- Maintain process control through the water purification and washwater processes including the establishment, maintenance, calibration and adjustment of chemical feed rates necessary to optimize the process operation.
- Monitor SCADA and adjust controls to regulate flow rates.
- Perform necessary emergency operating procedures and take proper corrective action for continuous, effective operation of the water purification plant.
- Perform water quality sampling, testing and analysis to determine compliance with federal, state, and WVAW's standards.
- Records data, such as chlorine residuals, raw and finished turbidities, pH, flows, day tank levels for each chemical, clear-well level, pump settings, and distribution tank levels.
- Monitor SCADA system to monitor water tank levels and water pressure and adjust booster pumps to maximize system effectiveness in delivery of treated water to the system.
- Loading, unloading, handling, placing into storage and batching water treatment plant chemicals.
- Maintain all necessary records.
- Perform general maintenance duties at water treatment plant and related facilities and other assigned duties.
Knowledge/SkillsJob Knowledge
- Knowledge of water purification processes, basic scientific concepts, water quality standards and regulations
- Must possess at least a non-restricted Class III Water Plant Operators License from the State of West Virginia and maintain certification renewal. (Class IV Recommended)
- Must successfully complete a pulmonary function test and respirator fit test.
- Be physically able to satisfactorily perform the required duties and work assignments.
- Must adhere to company policies regarding mandatory shift coverage when required.
Skills & Abilities
- Communicate in an effective manner, both oral and written, with the public and company personnel. Read and understand instructions, safety rules, etc.
- Mathematical skills sufficient to be able to calculate dosages, surface areas, volumes, weights, measures and algebraic formulas.
- Mechanical ability sufficient to operate pumps, valves, motors and other mechanical equipment related to plant operations.
- Must be able to comply with continuing education requirements as needed for Operator certification renewal.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more.
Experience/Education - High School graduate or state recognized education equivalency certificate.
- Must have 90 Continuing Education Units.
- Valid drivers license with ability to pass a motor vehicle check
