The facility utilizes completely automated manufacturing, packaging, and distribution systems, in addition to high volume and redundant utility systems, to ensure production system availability.
Position Summary:
* Operation and maintenance of Nephron Nitrile's wastewater recycling system.
* Providing leadership and direction for Nephron Nitrile's environmental programs by helping develop and ensuring the implementation of environmental policies and procedures designed to meet environmental laws and regulations.
* Perform safety assessments and awareness initiatives.
* Providing leadership to the site for innovative techniques for cost effective implementation of requirements.
* Carrying out all phases of environmental activities in a timely manner.
* Assisting with additional work duties or responsibilities as evident or required.
* Performing other duties as assigned or apparent.
To be successful as a Waste Treatment operator, you must be able to perform a variety of activities including planning, analysis, forecasting, and reporting. You should have strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills and be able to present information and models in a concise and easily comprehensible manner.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Learn the operations of wastewater pre-treatment plant in order to operate and maintain Nephron Nitrile's wastewater recycling system.
* Control equipment and monitor processes that remove or destroy harmful materials, chemicals, and microorganisms from wastewater.
* Run tests to make sure that the processes are working correctly.
* Keep records of water quality and other indicators.
* Operate and maintain the pumps and motors that move water and wastewater through filtration systems.
* Monitor the indicators at their plants and adjust as necessary.
* Read meters and gauges to make sure that plant equipment is working properly.
* Take samples and run tests to determine the quality of the water being produced.
* Adjust the amount of chemicals, such as hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide, being added to the water.
* Use computerized systems to monitor plant processes.
* Plan emergency reaction protocols.
* Fix chemical leaks and oxygen deficiencies.
* Keep records that document compliance.
* Assist with on-site HAZMAT activities as evident or required.
* Assist with on-site recycling initiatives as evident or required.
* Help develop and implement SOPs to ensure compliance with Federal, State and local requirements.
* Help develop and conduct training to site personnel. Perform safety assessments and awareness initiatives as evident or required.
* Track new and pending environmental regulations using available resources.
* Keep management abreast of potential impact(s) to Nephron Nitrile of new or pending regulations and develop policy recommendations for management.
* Assure Nephron South Carolina activities and operations comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations and prepare summary reports of environmental issues for site management.
* Identify and obtain necessary permits for new projects or plant modifications as required by SCDHEC. Ensure appropriate data is collected for fulfilling environmental reporting obligations.
* Use appropriate tracking methods to ensure that environmental reporting obligations are met.
* Fulfill site environmental reporting requirements.
* Help develop and implement internal auditing procedures in compliance with Federal/State environmental requirements.
* Direct independent audits of site operations, using internal and external resources with all final audit reports to be provided to local and corporate management.
* Work with R&D staff on new capital projects to identify potential environmental issues and to ensure budgeting for any needed equipment for compliance.
* Work with R&D staff to determine potential environmental concerns of new processes and develop cost effective approaches as necessary.
* Seek cost saving opportunities and implement as appropriate.
* Track environmental spending to ensure adherence to budget.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
* Bachelor or technical degree in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or physical science (i.e., chemistry, biology) preferred.
* Physical/Chemical Wastewater operator certification or experience preferred.
* DOT, HAZWOPER, LEED, OSHA, and RCRA Certifications preferred.
* GRI or SASB professional certifications preferred.
* Experience in an ISO 14001 organization preferred.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Word.
* Education may be substituted with experience and is otherwise negotiable.
* Ability to assess environmental issues and present to management on these issues.
* Confident in communication, interpersonal, multitasking, problem solving, planning, presentation and organizational skills.
* Must be able to perform in a high-pressure environment.
* Position requires: standing, sitting, talking, hearing, typing, lifting, and walking.
* Must be able to work Saturday and Sunday as evident or required.
