- Assist, support, and participate in water utility operator activities, function as a water treatment operator apprentice.
- Assist with data entry, retrieval, research, and report generation.
- Assist with monitoring plant performance by conducting analyses on samples from various stages in the treatment process; read gauges, make flow adjustments, and control tank levels using SCADA system.
- Learn to perform and complete tasks associated with water distribution system maintenance and operation including, but not limited to, proper use of tools and equipment, cleaning, painting, and lubricating equipment.
- Participate in routine maintenance activities such as system flushing, valve exercising and fire hydrant maintenance.
- Under direction, participate in the installation, repair and replacement of water mains, water services, valves, fire hydrants and water meters.
- Assist with operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment including, but not limited to, chemical feed systems, water pumps, and mixers.
- Turn water service on or off as requested by the customer or Water Meter Shop.
- Acquire current meter reads as requested by the customer, Water Metering or Customer Service.
- Learn and stay up to date on laboratory procedures, plant operations, safety procedures, and emergency response.
- Operate company vehicles and equipment according to established safety procedures and policies.
- Assist in bulk chemical deliveries.
- Make visual inspections and monitor surface treatment facilities and grounds.
- Maintain, test and repair water meters ranging from ¾ to 10 in the field and Meter Shop; install and/or change out water meters ranging from ¾ to 2 .
- Identify water service line leaks and notify necessary repairs to City of Denton meters and/or private side of meter; assist with customer communication regarding leak(s).
- Locate and raise buried meter boxes for Meter Reading to gain access; replace meter boxes and lids.
- Assist in the installation and repair of large diameter pressure reducing valves.
- Assist with determining appropriate chemical dosage and adjust, as appropriate.
- Install and monitor water sample station locations; record and maintain all data.
- Interact with customers as a representative of the City including, but not limited to, assisting with customer responses to concerns such as high bills, taste and odor, proper chlorination or possible air in the water lines.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Tank Vehicle endorsement and a good driving record OR must possess a valid Class C driver license with a good driving record and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL with Tank Vehicle endorsement within six (6) months of employment.
- Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check and social security number verification.
- Must pass a physical examination.
- Must obtain a Class 'D' Water license from TCEQ within twelve (12) months of employment.
- Must obtain a Class 'C' Surface Water Treatment Operator or Class 'C' Water Distribution Operator License from TCEQ within the next six (6) months, at the end of three (3) years following employment.
- Must attend and successfully complete the City's Defensive Driving Course (DDC) as soon as possible after employment (if required to drive City vehicle or personal vehicle for City business).
