We are currently seeking qualified Electric/Instrumentation Inspectors / Resident Engineers for water-wastewater pumping and treatment construction projects in the Tidewater, VA area. Available positions will serve existing Hampton Roads Sanitation District contracts within this region. Projects include treatment plant upgrades and large, complex pump stations. The Water/Wastewater Electric/Instrumentation Inspector will oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical and instrumentation systems in water and wastewater treatment facilities. You will ensure that all work complies with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations, playing a critical role in delivering quality, functional systems.Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect the installation of electrical systems, including control panels, wiring, conduit, and grounding.
  • Oversee the installation and testing of instrumentation and control systems, such as SCADA systems, PLCs, sensors, and flow meters.
  • Ensure compliance with project drawings, specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Conduct on-site inspections to verify proper installation and functionality of electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Review contractor submittals, test reports, and as-built documentation.
  • Perform troubleshooting and work with contractors to resolve installation issues.
  • Assist in system start-up, calibration, and commissioning efforts.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports documenting field activities, progress, and any deviations from specifications.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and contractors to address field issues.
  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure all work complies with OSHA and site-specific safety regulations.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or related field desired.
  • 10+ years of experience in inspecting electrical and instrumentation installations, preferably in water/wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, including wiring, conduit installation, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with water and wastewater treatment processes, and relevant instrumentation such as flow meters, pressure sensors, and SCADA systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and specifications.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites in Tidewater, VA.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certifications in electrical inspection, instrumentation, or related fields.
  • Experience working with municipal water/wastewater treatment plants.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and relevant safety standards
