Job Description:

The City of Friendswood is currently accepting applications for a full-time Water and Wastewater Operator in the Public Works Department. This position will perform technical duties associated with the operations and maintenance of the City's Water production and Wastewater handling facilities.

WORK PERFORMED:

* Inspects, observes and maintains the City's water production facilities and system to ensure the uninterrupted supply of safe drinking water.

* Ensures the proper operation of sewer lift stations.

* Collects water samples for submittal to the laboratory for bacteriological and/or chemical analysis.

* Tests, calculates, determines, and adjusts chemical doses to ensure safe and aesthetically pleasing water for the city's citizens.

* Inspects and refills or changes ammonia, phosphate drums, and chlorine cylinders.

* Performs electrical and mechanical maintenance and repairs all water facilities and lift stations. (Pumps, Motors, Controls, etc.)

* Performs preventative maintenance and repairs to on-site generators-oil & filter changes, battery replacement, etc.

* Serves on-call rotation and performs weekend rounds at water facilities and lift stations when required.

* Mows and trims grounds of all water facilities and lift stations, cleans and maintains water facilities and lift stations.

* Maintains accurate, precise records of water plant logs, sampling data, and lift station run data. Records flow data at sites where required.

* Flushes fire hydrants and dead ends on a routine basis.

* Answers citizen's water complaints/water quality. (i.e., taste, odor, discoloration, low pressure, etc.)

* Answers customer complaints regarding lift station operations (i.e., excessive noise, visible and audible alarms, etc.)

* Performs other duties within the area of responsibility as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

* High school diploma or G.E.D.

* 1-3 years working for a City, County, or State is required (May substitute years of experience for education or certificates)

* Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical repairs and maintenance, knowledge of safety methods used in water and wastewater operations, & basic knowledge of construction and carpentry.

* Knowledge of TCEQ rules, regulations, and permits

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:

* Class C Texas Driver's License

* Class C Groundwater License issued by TCEQ or the ability to obtain within 6 months

* Class I Collection License issued by TCEQ or the ability to obtain within 6 months

This position may require 24-hour availability in emergency situations
