Collects data and samples to determine the proper operation of the City's system. Works under general supervision. This position is non-exempt. - Assists in operation of the treatment facilities and maintenance including taking samples, testing, and analyzing the laboratory samples. Tests different locations for overall health of system and identify problem spots.
- Performs maintenance and repair of equipment, wells, electrical panels, gauges, controllers, pumps, etc. Shuts down and cleans sludge presses. Cleans clarifiers and pulls rags from them.
- Assists in the supervision and training of trainees and other personnel.
- Repairs valves, scales, control panels and other electrical problems.
- Performs inspections and maintenance of the water and/or wastewater operation systems. Works with biological, chemical, and mechanical processes to assure compliance with regulations.
- Performs manual labor such as mowing, operating small equipment, etc.
- Performs housekeeping duties in well houses.
- Visits or talks with customers to resolve related problems.
- Assists in preparation or related reports.
- Maintains logs and enters data in related systems.
- Maintains home telephone and may be required to work rotating shifts, on call duties, and extended hours in emergency situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One (1) year of related experience.
- Valid Florida Class C certification in either water or wastewater treatment; and obtain the other treatment license within two (2) years from date of employment.
- Certified in the safe handling of chlorine.
- Certified in Confined Space Entry.
- Obtain a restricted Class B Commercial Florida Driver's License with air brake and hazmat endorsements within 90 days from date of employment.
- Obtain a Class B Commercial Florida Driver's License with air brake and hazmat endorsements within 180 days from date of employment.
- Obtain FEMA IS100, IS700 within six (6) months from date of employment.
- Valid Florida Driver's License.
In some cases, an equivalent combination of higher education and experience may be considered, provided that the education and experience is in a relevant and related field. Essential Physical Functions & Environmental ConditionsPhysical Demands
- Continual light work and occasional heavy work.
- Able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds.
- Requires frequent walking and standing, climbing, stooping, reaching, and bending.
- Good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
- Good eyesight, hearing, and speech.
- Regular driving of vehicle.
- Must be able to wear personal protection equipment (PPE).
Work Environment Works outside in sometimes adverse environmental conditions (e.g., heat, cold, and rain) for moderate periods of time. Exposure to construction and water/wastewater site hazards, traffic, and moving machinery. Involves working with high voltage equipment, heights, and below ground level conditions.
