Job Summary

As the Associate Water/Wastewater Operator (Potable) you will learn to and/or perform routine and emergency maintenance and repair on the Purdue water distribution system under the direction of certified water operators. This position requires completion of mandatory waterworks certification within 30 months. This position is subject to 24-hour callback, planned and unplanned overtime, and flextime is required.

As the Water/Wastewater Operator (Potable) This position serves as a certified water operator for the Purdue water distribution system. The individual in this position monitors the system and performs routine and emergency maintenance and repair on the system. This position is responsible for providing training and oversight in the field. Mandatory training and continuing education are required for this position. This position is subject to 24-hour callback, planned and unplanned overtime, and flextime are required.

This is a dual level posting where the hiring manager will determine the level commensurate with the education and experience of the chosen candidate.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience Required:

For the SK1 Water/Wastewater Operator you will need the following:

* High School Degree or High School Equivalency (HSE) is required

* Some experience in one of the following areas: water distribution, wastewater collection, plumbing, metering, or backflow prevention

* Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License

Water/Wastewater Operator (SK2) you will need the above and the following:

* Three years of experience in one of the following areas: water distribution, wastewater collection, plumbing, metering, or backflow prevention

Preferred:

* Awareness of environmental health concerns or environmental health experience preferred, but not required

Skills Needed:

For the SK1 Water/Wastewater Operator you will need the following:

* Must have a high mechanical aptitude, with the ability to learn to operate the water distribution system under the direct guidance of certified water operators

* Must have good verbal communication skills

* Ability to perform basic mathematical equations

* Must be able to lift and carry 50 to 80 lbs. frequently, and up to 100 plus lbs. occasionally

* Computer skills including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications are required

* Basic blueprint reading skills are required

* Must acquire Indiana Water Works Operator Certifications WT-2 and DSL (Distribution System Large) certification within 30 months of employment

* Must have the ability to continue education and training

For the SK2 Water/Wastewater Operator you must have the above and below to be considered:

* Must have a high mechanical aptitude.

* Must have Knowledge of AWWA (American Water Works Association) standards. Indiana Water Works/Wastewater Operator Certifications WT2 (Water Treatment), DSL(Distribution System Large) certification required

* Demonstrated ability for continuing education and training required

* Good verbal communication skills are required

* Must work well in a team environment

* Ability to read blueprints required

* Skills in sampling and disinfecting techniques required
