The Morgan Hill Parks and Recreation Division seeks an experienced watercolor instructor to provide beginning and intermediate instruction to adults 50+.ScheduleApplicant must be available to teach Tuesdays from 1-3:30pm. Classes are held year-round. Overall enrollment will determine hours worked and could expand if program grows or reduce if enrollment falls short.SalaryThe hourly pay rate for this position is $22.00 to $23.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. This is a year-round, part-time, temporary position with no benefits.Selection ProcessApplications will be screened and those applicants determined to have the best experience, skills, and qualifications will be invited for an oral interview. Prior to appointment, applicant must authorize a reference check. Also prior to appointment, a background check must be completed, which involves fingerprinting for submission to the Department of Justice. Examples of Duties RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and execute a well-structured, engaging lesson plan and use appropriate instructional techniques to safely and effectively educate participants.
- Adapt teaching approach to the age, experience, and ability of participants.
- Maintain constant supervision of all participants, even while providing individual instruction; record attendance at each session.
- Provide a safe, positive, and fun environment that is conducive to learning for a recreational art program.
- Represent the City and Department in a positive manner and follow all policies and procedures.
- Be responsible for all scheduled hours and, if necessary, follow the notification and/or substitution/class makeup procedures.
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with Class Coordinator, Welcome Desk teammates, and participants. Inform Coordinator of any safety issues or concerns.
- May administer first aid, perform CPR, and/or summon Supervisors and./or emergency personnel as required for injuries or medical emergencies.
Qualification Requirements EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Training and/or experience teaching watercolor to adults, ideally in a recreation setting.
- A working knowledge of art education and the ability to share that knowledge.
- Experience creating and executing a lesson plan for varying skill levels and ages.
- Demonstrated ability to provide constructive feedback and motivate participants.
- Reliable; ability to complete assignments with limited direct supervision.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively.
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is desirable.
CERTIFICATES:
- CPR and First Aid certification must be acquired in the first three months of employment (class provided by employer).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicants must be physically capable of sustained walking, standing, and stretching.
Part-time, temporary positions are non-benefitted, at-will positions. Part-time employees are enrolled in the PARS retirement system and the employee pays 7.5%, which is deducted from the employees' payroll check. The PARS retirement system is in lieu of participating in social security. Part-time employees participate in the Medicare portion of social security as that is a required program.
