We are lookingfor a positive, dependable, and, caring cook to work Weekend basis. The right candidate will join a team that strives to meet the growing demand in our community for quality care.
The cook supports the health and nutrition of residents by preparing and cooking meals, while upholding strict sanitation and safe handling procedures. Under the supervision of the dietary supervisor, the cook helps ensure that each resident's meal, snack and beverage is in accordance with the individual's nutrition plan. The cook is responsible for several aspects of the kitchen work, including preparing, cooking and serving meals, and working tray line.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to all foodservice standards and regulations as set forth by the New York State Department of Health.
- Preparation and cooking of all meals according to the menu.
- Preparation and cooking of special meals for residents when prescribed by the physician.
- Prepare substitute meal as noted on the substitute meal log provided by the facility.
- Must follow the rule of FIFO (First in, first out). Foods to be labeled, dated, and put away upon delivery.
- Ensure all leftover foods are properly covered, labeled, dated.
- Discard all leftover after 72 hours from opening.
- Responsible for the of cleanliness and sanitation of the following: pantry room, cooler/freezer, kitchen, and dietary office.
- Responsible for the washing and cleaning of all uses, pots, pans, and utensils.
- Ensure all refrigerators and freezers have thermometers with proper storage temperatures.
- Keep records of food serving temperature, substitutions, and dated menus.
- Periodic meetings with the facility dietary consultant.
- Attends In-Service classes in relation to nutrition, food preparation and presentation and cooking both therapeutic and regular meals.
- Check daily census for accurate meal preparation.
- Regularly inquire about updates to residents diet roster.
- When necessary, the facility cook is required to take on other responsibilities as directed by administration.
Requirements
- Minimum of 18 years of age; high school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous cooking experience required
- High degree of personal cleanliness and hygiene required; health status suitable for food service required
- Ability to read and understand work assignments, as well as report verbally and provide written documentation as necessary
- Respect for residents' privacy and rights; display of genuine concern and empathy for the elderly
- • Able to perform tasks while upholding high standards of quality, cleanliness and kindness
- Qualities of responsibility, diplomacy and ability to work well with fellow staff members
- Physical endurance for frequent activity
- Be able to occasionally lift boxes weighing 40 pounds
