Job Description:

Summary: This is a working leadership position. While there are daily leadership duties, there may also be time spent processing parts depending on the need. As a member of the department's leadership team, you will provide assistance as required, perform other duties as assigned, and participate in the Continuous Improvement Process. This is a safety-sensitive position because this is a hands-on team lead role. This individual will be working with forklifts or combis, machinery such as shears, plasma, robotic welders, tube benders, power and hand tools including saws, grinders, sanders, and hoists. You may also work with lasers, painting equipment including sprayers, paint, chemicals, and other heavy materials such as steel beams or steel pipe for trusses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effectively communicate daily production plan with tier-1 teams.
  • Assign staff and work: move personnel on the floor based on production needs and notify supervisor or manager of staffing needs.
  • Monitor or complete the tier-1 PvA boards on an hourly and/or job basis. Advise supervisor and/or manager of performance issues.
  • Identify issues and engage the tier-1 teams in problem resolution and understand when to escalate issues to the supervisor or manager.
  • Ensure the continuous flow of production of assigned areas to meet planned output (water-spider activity).
  • Provide coaching and facilitate training to develop employees.
  • Act as the primary 5S zone owner responsible for implementing and improving the level of 5S in assigned area(s).
  • Assist with the development of standard work and follow standard work procedures.
  • Perform audits (safety, 5S, standard work, etc.) and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Participate in the daily tier-2 meetings.
  • Collaborate with manager and supervisor regarding work performance, flow of production, and constraints that may arise.
  • Use software (Epicore) as necessary to report proper usage and movement of material.
  • Effectively set up and operate welding equipment.
  • Repair and maintain manufacturing equipment, as needed.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

  • Experience working with blueprints, engineering drawings, or other specifications.

  • Some computer experience required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years' experience preferred.
  • Must have communication skills appropriate for the job and the ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision.

Language Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, policies and procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
