Job Description:

The Weld Technician prepares weld procedure specifications and associated documentation. The Weld Technician will oversee weld procedure qualifications and document results. The Weld Technician collaborates with Weld Engineers for customer required mock ups and testing. The Weld Technician will manage multiple jobs and priorities, to ensure timely completion of job specific requirements while maintaining welder continuity records. This is an experienced welding position that is a direct report to the Senior Weld Engineer or the QA Program Manager. Job Duties:

  • Maintain welding programs database.
  • Facilitates and conduct weld procedure qualifications to specifications, and accurately records and maintains all required data.
  • Facilitate welder qualifications.
  • Facilitates and performs tube to tube sheet mock ups.
  • Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of all mechanized/automatic and orbital welding equipment in production in for daily welding related issues.
  • Supports maintenance and weld engineering in operation of all mechanized/automatic and orbital welding equipment for advanced troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Assist Weld Engineering in performance of duties with Development of new welding processes and procedures.
  • Train and assist welders/operators in production and evaluate welds to applicable standards.
  • Maintain communication and work independently to support production welding operators
  • Understands production welding inspection requirements and acceptance standards.
  • Operate and load weld programs to programmable Polysoude welding machines and perform minor maintenance.
  • Procure and prepare test plates.
  • Procure laboratory testing.
  • Write procedure qualification records and welder performance qualification records in accordance with ASME Section IX and NavseaTechpub 248.
  • Communicates with Shop Leads and Weld Engineers on a daily basis concerning activity requirements.
  • Ability to follow and adhere to quality management system procedures.
Requirements Education and Experience Required: • 5-7 years of welding experience. • Must have proficient computer skills. • Sufficient practical background in applicable materials, fabrication, and product technology • High school diploma or GED/BOCES required. • Must have technical aptitude • Required to pass an eye examination including color blindness test. Salary Description $27-$36/hour
