J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers is looking for experienced welders who set up and operate equipment to weld together fabricated metal components of products such as truck bodies, trailers, specialty vehicles, and related subassemblies; and custom fabrications made of carbon steel and aluminum using the GMAW and FCAW process. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safely perform duties, always wearing the required PPE
- Observes and complies with all provisions of the ISO 9001 QMS
- Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by training, or by foreman.
- Starts the power supply to produce an electric current.
- Cleans or degreases weld joints or workpieces.
- Prepares objects for welding by grinding surfaces.
- Positions and clamps work pieces together or assemble them in a jig or fixture. Fit up simple assemblies
- Preheat the workpiece if/when required.
- Strikes (forms) arc to melt and deposit metal from electrode to workpiece and join edges of the workpiece.
- Manually guides gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
- Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
- Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
- Set up and adjust welder, and perform routine maintenance such as replacing spools of wire & changing out liners.
- Safely operate all lifting devices such as overhead & jib cranes and fork trucks when authorized & adequately trained.
Education and Experience:
- Vocational/technical training is needed, and a high school diploma or general education degree with work experience in an industrial setting is desired.
