Lead the work of others in analysis, detection and repair of defects. Report irregularities and abnormal conditions to the appropriate supervision. Maintain SWEPCO approved welding certification. Actively participate in continuous improvement activities.Job DescriptionSuccessful candidate must reside within one (1) hour drive to the Welsh Power Plant, in normal driving conditions.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:The welder/machinist will perform the following and will train apprentice industrial maintenance mechanics to perform them:Perform boiler, piping, and pressure vessel repairs.Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all mechanical components of plant equipment.Diagnose troubleshoot, align, repair, and maintain mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and components such as the boiler, turbine generator, pumps, control valves, fans, other rotating equipment, and associated piping.Operate machine shop and portable machine equipment such as lathes, shapers, drill presses, milling machines, boring bars and similar machining equipment to produce accurate tolerance on all shapes including those not readily machined on standard machine tools. Develop jigs and fixtures as necessary and performing precision fitting of component parts as required.Use monitoring equipment such as vibration and thermal test equipment, to assess equipment conditions.Perform electric arc and oxyacetylene structural welding to repair equipment. Perform oxyacetylene cutting, heating, and brazing piping and structural components.Erect and remove scaffolding and perform rigging, lifting and blocking.Operate and maintain mobile equipment such as manlifts, forklifts, backhoes, etc. and perform pre-use inspections.Prepare, update, and maintain records and documentation as required.Possess strong working knowledge of facility specific processes and systems.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Education requirements are listed below:High School Diploma or GED. Associate degree in an industrial maintenance/mechanical discipline or Certificate ( Electronics/Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation) or equivalent experience as stated belowWork Experience requirement listed below:Must have 10 years of experience as a power plant machinist or other industrial mechanical/machinist experience. Proficient welding experience (what kind Managers) in order to take AEP welding testRequired License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below:Must possess the appropriate State driver's license.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:The required Pre Employment tests are listed below: EEIPOSS/EEIMASS - Plant Maintenance Sel Sys. Physical demand level is Not Yet DeterminedSuccessful completion of the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) test is required for this position.A review of Employment Testing Information, Test-Taking tips, and the POSS Practice Test may be helpful. A link to these materials may be found at AEP.com Careers by selecting Employment testing.A physical abilities assessment is also required for this position.Must be willing to work rotating shifts including weekends, nights, and holidays.Minimum long distance travel required but the inspection of remote equipment is a daily requirement for this position.Must respond to call-outs in both outage and non-outage work to maintain and support business operational needs and schedules.Must be able to learn and comply with all applicable plant operating instructions and procedures.Must be able to learn and comply with the rules, safety practices and procedures applicable to the work environment and report unsafe conditions and practices.Must learn and have a working knowledge of Safety and Environmental guidelines. Must be able to learn and properly use the tools and equipment applicable to work duties.Must be able to read, interpret and work from simple prints and specifications. Communicate effectively, both verbally and written.Demonstrate professional conduct and effective interactions with employees, contractors and others.Must be willing and able to work inside designated confined space entry areas, elevated areas and in hot and cold temperatures.Must be able to wear respirator when required.Train for fire fighting, first aid, AED and other emergency response programs as required.
