JOB DESCRIPTION - WELDERJOB SUMMARYPerform inspections or verify that the work inspected, and records maintained, conform to the requirements of the applicable standards. Has responsibility for determining if welded assemblies conform to workmanship and acceptable criteria by performing the following duties.SAFETYSafety is the single most important part of any position at George Evans Corp. and employees will:Adhere to all safety and quality rules and regulationsWear appropriate safety personal protective equipment (PPE) as requiredMaintain equipment in good condition with all installed safety guards in placeReport all injuries, no matter how minor to their managerEncourage co-workers to work safelyReport unsafe acts, work practices, and conditions to managementFailure to follow all safety rules may result in disciplinary action up to and including terminationESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESQualified and performs according to specified welding procedures and techniquesAbility to interpret drawings and other documentsWorking knowledge of fixtures and welding setup parameters (amps, volts, etc.)Use of finish grinding applications using manual and power toolsOperate machinery used in the production process or assist machine operatorOperate forklift in a safe and knowledgeable mannerVerify that the welding equipment to be used for the work is appropriate for the use with the welding procedure and has the capability to meet the applicable requirements of the welding procedureVerify that the base materials and consumable welding materials conform to the specifications and that the welding filler metals used are as specified for each base material or combination of base materialsInspects and certifies work performed to specified standards and completes necessary documentationLift raw materials, final products, and items packed for shipmentPrepares product for shipmentUse of conventional and precision measuring devicesMaintain appropriate housekeeping in the work area and ensure equipment is clean and arranged in an orderly fashionProvide a great level of attention to detail and focus on the given taskWork with team members to maximize productivity and efficiencyPerforms additional duties as assignedRequirementsEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED)Prefer a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in an occupational function that has a direct relationship to welded assemblies fabricated to national or international standardsSuccessful completion of an internal welding testAble to read and interpret drawings, and routings, use simple math to perform basic calculations, and use basic hand-held measuring devicesGood, punctual attendance with the ability to work any shiftGeneral Physical Demands for Basic labor in a Steel Fab ShopPhysical requirements - the person must be able to stand for the entire shift (up to 10 hours).Use heavy grinders at waist level for long periods of time.Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 250 pounds while being assisted by hoists, slings, forklifts or other human or mechanical assistance.Use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired.Adjust body movements or equipment controls to keep pace with speed changes of moving objects.Be physically active for long periods without getting tired or out of breath.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.Repetitively bend, stretch, twist, or reach out.Bend or twist their body.Be capable of reacting quickly to any emergency safety alerts.IT IS IMPORTANT FOR ALL STEEL FAB SHOP WORKERS TO BE ABLE TO:See details of objects that are less than a few feet away.Move two or more limbs together (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while remaining in place.Hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm.Use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects.Use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects.Make quick, precise adjustments to machine controls.See details of objects that are more than a few feet away.Determine the distance between objects.Focus on one source of sound and ignore others.Understand the speech of another person.React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.Keep or regain the body's balance or stay upright when in an unstable position.Coordinate movement of several parts of the body, such as arms and legs, while the body is moving.Speak clearly so listeners can understand.Choose quickly and correctly among various movements when responding to different signals.Hear sounds and recognize the difference between them.See objects in very bright or glaring light.
