Job DetailsDescriptionThe Welding Engineer is a key organizational role in a rapidly growing, world-class manufacturing company. The candidate selected will employ his extensive knowledge of physics, engineering, metallurgy, materials, welding, and standards to design, examine, and evaluate welds as well as to plan, supervise, and document welding operations in accordance with relevant codes, contracts, or drawings. The role of the Welding Engineer is critical to the integrity of the vast number of products that require welding. Work EnvironmentWelding engineers work in a mix of environments both inside and outside of the office that may include manufacturing facilities, testing labs, and vendors. Frequent visits to vendors may be required.Essential duties and Responsibilities include the following.Other duties may be assigned.
- Actively develop new welding procedures and welding methods.
- Review and accommodate welding specifications.
- Work directly with Laboratory for the development of PQR.
- Maintain the Welding Procedure Specification and Procedure Qualification Report database with current procedures.
- Maintain Welder's Qualification records (WQR) and Continuity log.
- Develop training material and train other welders in new techniques, processes or changes in design.
- Review and assign Welding Procedure Specifications for jobs.
- Ensure welding consumables and handling is in compliance with procedures and recommendations.
- Investigate welding related issues to improve product performance and increase productivity.
- Troubleshoot welding problems and provide corrective solutions (repair plan, etc).
- Audit suppliers to ensure the right quality, materials and compliance.
- Ensure that all customer, company, and industry standards are adhered to.
- Analyzing engineering designs for welding requirements.
- Communicate with customers regarding welding issues.
- Provide technical support to shop personnel.
- Provide support to the other departments for welding matters, assist with audits, participate in root cause investigation, and provide recommendations for inspection and corrective action.
QualificationsEducational Qualifications:
- Minimum Degree in welding engineering, Welding, Metallurgy or related field.
- Must have a working knowledge of ASME BPVC Section VIII, Division 1, and Section IX.
- Must have a working knowledge of AWS D1.1
- Must know the strength of materials and be able to perform basic engineering strength calculations.
- Must have a basic understanding of welding metallurgy & heat treatment.
- Personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet.
- Preferred to be AWS Certified Welding Inspector, AWS Certified Welding Engineer
Work Experience:
- Min 5 years of welding engineering experience.
- Min 5 years of fabrication experience.
