Our Unit is dedicated to establishing acceptance criteria for materials and manufactured products, ensuring they meet the highest standards and function as intended. We play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the North Carolina Highway System, in accordance with Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Regulations.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Material Certification Program Assistant. This role is crucial in supporting the Material Certification Program Engineer with investigations of material exceptions and shortages, ensuring accurate documentation, and maintaining the integrity of our transportation construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee material certification activities in the Western portion of North Carolina.
* Assist in investigating material exceptions and shortages discovered during material certification reviews.
* Compile and manage the Material Exceptions and Shortage Report.
* Ensure accurate and sufficient documentation for verifying the quality of materials and products.
* Design, implement, and monitor the Project Audit Assessment program.

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:
* Knowledge of engineering theory, techniques, and procedures relating to technician assessments and the sampling and testing of construction materials administered by the NCDOT Materials and Tests Unit.
* Knowledge of a wide variety of construction materials properties, specifications, quality assurance concepts, and federal regulations to ensure materials compliance.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with various internal and external customers related to inspection, sampling, testing, certification, and quality assurance programs.
* Demonstrated ability to navigate within the HiCAMS and Vendor database, including performing queries and utilizing this data in an Excel Spreadsheet.
Additional Expectations:
This position requires a highly motivated individual who is able to work independently as well as part of a team. The successful candidate will have strong work ethic standards with a technical background in engineering, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical personnel. Experience managing contracts is desired.

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
