Location: Saint Louis,MO, USA
POSITION SUMMARY: To provide nutrition education to WIC eligible participants and assess their nutritional needs for certification eligibility.
Education: Bachelor's degree in public health nutrition, Dietetics, Home Economic, or closely related field; including or supplemented by at least fifteen (15) semester hours in foods and nutrition including one (1) course in diet therapy and one (1) course in community nutrition.
Applicant must attend extensive training courses provided by the Missouri Department of Health.
Experience:
* Two (2) years' experience in the field of nutrition.
* One (1) year as a public health nutritionist.
* One (1) year counseling and customer service experience desired.

License(s)/Certification(s) Registered Dietitian or R.D. preferred.
Essential Functions
* Conducts group education classes in nutrition; demonstrate food preparation, meal planning and food shopping procedures.
* Assists in preparing and implementing nutrition education plans and developing educational materials.
* Assesses and monitors client's dietary intake and nutritional status; addresses nutritional or health related concerns.
* Reviews, analyzes, and interprets medical information provided by medical staff, and provides certification and nutrition education to patients.
* Issues WIC checks to eligible clients.
* Maintains daily counts of all appointments. Completes monthly reports.
* Counsel patients and families for health promotion and therapeutic diets.
* Participates in group planning conferences and coordinates services with other departments.
* Refers patients to other health or social services and maintains communication to assure coordination.
* Takes accurate weights and measurements of clients for HPA certification.
* Monitors and places telephone calls to patients who have missed appointments; reschedule missed appointments and sends them post card with new appointment date and time. Update appointment book monthly.
* Follows specific medical policies for checking in/outpatients' charts. Returns clients medical chart to medical records daily.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
