Overview
This position will be from 5/19/2025 to 8/7/2025.
The salary for this position is $45 to $55 per hour depending on experience.
Responsibilities
* Provide first aid and emergency care to campers and camp staff.
* Treat campers and staff who show signs of illness (flu, foodborne illness, allergies, etc.).
* Provide assistance with emotional support (bullying, homesickness, etc.).
* Conduct pre-camp health assessments during camp check-in (including documenting and reviewing camper medicines).
* Administer over-the-counter and prescription medications to program participants and staff per written protocol at designated times.
* Record planned and unplanned procedures, and efficiently complete detailed reports of behavioral or medical issues during the duration of camp.
* Provide education on applicable health topics, such as sunburn and tick prevention.
* Maintain health office and equipment.
* Inventory and track supplies, informing Conservation Education Coordinators when items must be ordered.
* Report repairs and maintenance needs of program areas, equipment, and grounds in a timely manner to Director of Conservation Education and Engagement.
* Follow The Wilds policies, procedures, and guidelines, helping seasonal staff to do the same.
* Attend and participate in camp programming when available.
* Attend departmental meetings and participate in developmental seminars and workshops as required.
* Constantly strive to further the mission of the organization and avidly support the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Zoombezi Bay, Safari Golf Club and The Wilds.
* Implement sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
* Associates degree or Bachelor's degree in Nursing or relevant field required.
* Must have acquired and hold an active RN license.
* Confidence in delivering routine and emergency care in a camp setting
* Physical ability to lift/assist campers and staff for treatment.
* Ability to maintain a positive attitude in sometimes stressful situations required.
* Show respect for all races, classes, creeds, and backgrounds, and sexual orientations.
* Able to execute nursing duties in a varied, indoor-outdoor environment, including negotiating uneven outdoor ground and some medium lifting (25 lbs)
* Ability to work independently and within a team environment and exercise mature judgement.
* Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing required.
* Must have great problem solving, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to plan and organize work in an efficient and cost-effective manner and without direct supervision required.
* Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with all Wilds team members.
* Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends (housing on site is available).
* Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including but not limited to safety protocols required.
* Possession of a valid state issued motor vehicle operator's license and a good driving record required, as well as ability to operate standard shift vehicles required.
* Ability to adhere to The Wilds drug-free workplace policy including but not limited to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion and follow-up treatment required.
* C.P.R./First Aid certification required.
* Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually required.
