Compensation75000.00Compensation TypeExemptEmployment TypeRegularScheduled Weekly Hours40GradeE20DepartmentInstructionPosition SummaryThe Director of the Wildfire Resiliency Training Center (WRTC) at Luna Community College will lead efforts to attract, enroll, retain, and graduate students in programs that meet both immediate and long-term wildfire disaster recovery needs and USDA NextGen workforce requirements. The Director will manage federal, state, and private grants that support the Center, providing strategic leadership and overseeing program development. Additionally, the Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Center, including budgeting, grant reporting, personnel management, curricula and information delivery and program evaluation/administration.Duties & ResponsibilitiesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Define and manage the short- and long-term goals of the WRTC, including the execution of grant objectives.
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of instructional programs, focusing on curriculum design, faculty development, and program evaluation.
  • Oversee recruitment efforts in collaboration with the Admissions and Recruitment Department to promote the Center and engage prospective students.
  • Collaborate with the WRTC Advisory Council, community stakeholders, and other college departments to implement and promote effective academic and work force development programs.
  • Coordinate with student services to provide tailored support for WRTC students.
  • Develop and implement professional development opportunities focused on culturally responsive teaching and active learning for faculty and staff.
  • Supervise and mentor WRTC staff, including full-time and part-time faculty and contract employees, conducting regular evaluations.
  • Manage budgets, ensuring fiscal accountability, and develop strategies to secure additional funding.
  • Prepare and submit institutional and grant reports and deliverables, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Create and oversee internship and work-based learning opportunities for students.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with community organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Align WRTC's activities with broader college goals in collaboration with college leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and external regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support the Center's success.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in environmental science, land management, or a related field (e.g., Forestry, Rangeland Management, Natural Resource Management, Fire Suppression, Botany, Biology, Hydrology, Wildlife Conservation, Recreational Resource Management, Sustainability) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a related field, including leadership in program management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and lead a diverse team effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in academic administration, personnel management, or project implementation.
  • Teaching experience in higher education.
