IntroductionThe Beach Nester Project works to monitor and protect bird species of conservation concern nesting on Delaware's beaches.Click here for more information about the Division of Fish & Wildlife.Summary StatementThis seasonal position will monitor piping plovers, oystercatchers, and terns. Responsibilities include completing beach surveys, monitoring nests and broods, assisting in trapping and color banding piping plovers; protecting habitat and nests with fencing, signs, predator exclosures and by interacting with the public; coordinating volunteers to provide public outreach; and assisting with other wildlife projects. Daily work requires walking up to 5 miles in sand, carrying equipment, driving trucks, and using a spotting scope to distinguish colored leg bands and flags on distant shorebirds. Other duties include data entry, management, and reporting using GIS, Excel, and Access. Applicant will be required to work irregular hours, weekends, or holidays as necessary.Essential FunctionsEssential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.
