Job Description:
We seek an experienced and versatile Wireless Network Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will excel in designing, deploying, and managing temporary wireless network environments across diverse settings. This role requires a strong background in wireless technologies, adaptability to challenging field conditions, and the ability to deliver robust network solutions under time constraints. The candidate must also demonstrate leadership qualities for successfully guiding teams and projects.
Duties and Key Responsibilities
- Network Design and Implementation:
- Lead the design, testing, installation, and management of temporary wireless network infrastructures, ensuring seamless and secure setups.
- Confidently self-develop, execute, and coordinate project deliverables with project managers to provide comprehensive and trackable milestones internally and externally with clients.
- Implement and maintain IP network configurations, including VLANs, ACLs, Spanning Tree Protocols, and QoS settings tailored to meet the specific needs of temporary deployments.
- Site Surveys and Analysis:
- Leads wireless network deployments, including RF planning, AP placement, and configuration to ensure optimal coverage and minimal interference
- Conduct site surveys using tools like Ekahau and/or Hamina, analyze signal propagation and coverage, and adjust designs to optimize network performance and user experience
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate wireless solutions into existing networks
- Develop customized wireless solutions for non-traditional locations and client needs
- Advocate for increasing our tech strategy, staying updated on market trends, industry best practices, and emerging technologies related to wireless networking
- Network Monitoring and Security Management:
- Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks or security vulnerabilities, and assist in implementing proactive measures for mitigation
- Support developing and enforcing network security protocols, including firewall configurations, IDS/IPS settings, and regular security audits to protect against unauthorized access and data breaches
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain documentation of network configurations, installations, and performance metrics
- Lead in generating reports on network performance, incidents, and improvements for internal review and client communication
- Develops and updates documentation about wireless engineering processes and procedures, which aids in leading the engineering teams development
- Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with project managers and leads to ensure seamless integration and operation of network systems
- Provide troubleshooting and support for network issues, leveraging both internal and external teams for rapid and effective solutions
- Exhibit leadership skills under pressure and foster a collaborative culture as the face of the network team
Qualifications:
Required:
- 5+ years in Network Management
- 5+ years in Wireless Network Engineering
- 3+ years in Temporary Deployment of Networks
- Expert troubleshooting skills across multi-vendor wireless network environments
- Motivated self-starter with a team-first attitude.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient with formal written communications (Outlook, Word, Teams).
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and Google platforms (Excel, Google Sheets, etc.).
- Flexible schedule, ability to work weekends, and travel are required.
- Ability to legally operate their own vehicle and company vehicles.
- Work independently under directions and guidelines without direct supervisor contact.
- Frequent Travel (domestic and international) on average 10-12 days per month
- Must have a valid Passport and Drivers License
- Must be able to sit for long periods. Must be able to stand, bend over, kneel, reach with both arms, lift up to 40 lbs. and walk long distances
Preferred:
- Additional vendor-specific certifications and hardware familiarity (e.g., from Juniper Networks, Aruba, and Extreme Networks) are valuable
- Professional Certification - ECSE, CWNA, CWDP, CWSP, CWAP
Working Environment:
Work is performed professionally, with core job responsibilities in various temporary working environments onsite at our events. This job requires travel and some weekend work to support events as assigned. Thus, flexibility to work in remote settings will be required.
