**What You Will Do**
Use your skills and subject matter expertise to develop and provide technical leadership, oversight, and management of Waste Management Services technicians, and associated subject matter experts for the Waste Management - Waste Management Services (WM-WMS) group at one of the most important research institutions in the world. Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for an outstanding Waste Management Services Manager to enhance the leadership and working experience for our employees while supporting cradle-to-grave waste management operations for non-hazardous, hazardous, chemical, radioactive and mixed wastes.
Reporting to the WM-WMS Group Leader, the Waste Management Services Manager (Team Leader, Environmental Manager 3) is responsible for driving operational excellence; acting as the change manager for the team with a focus on creative problem solving; ensuring operational performance metrics; managing projects and generating high quality deliverables; and overseeing a customer focused approach to waste management to include Department of Transportation (DOT) classification, shipment planning, packaging, storage, treatment and disposal. You will help motivate team members to achieve and exceed goals, milestones, and deliverables; contribute directly to the Laboratory Agenda on waste initiatives; and will help foster a professional and collaborative working environment. While meeting waste management commitments you will be driving process improvements and developing the skills and morale of the team of 15 waste management professionals. The Team Leader ensures development and maintenance of the capabilities necessary to support programmatic mission success through resource allocation, succession planning and execution of programs/projects, as well as mentoring, recruiting, and retaining qualified staff.

**Strategic Planning and Tactical Execution:**
**Strong record supporting strategic planning for short- and enduring long- term missions, technical advocacy, innovation, and operational excellence in executing complex technical programs, setting objectives, managing risk, eliminating obstacles and challenges, meeting milestones and communicating progress.**
**Regulation and Compliance:**
**Advanced knowledge and experience in hazardous and radioactive waste management and shipping operations to include field implementation of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA); profiling, characterization, packaging, storing, certification, transportation, and off-site disposition; compliance with waste acceptance criteria; waste management documentation and waste related business systems and databases. Training, certification and/or experience as an Advanced Hazardous Materials Radioactive Materials, and Mixed Waste Shipper as per 49 CFR requirements.**
**Project Management:**
**Experience applying project management principles to set and achieve project scope, schedule, priorities, and deliverables while managing risk and without compromising safety and compliance.**
**Education/Experience:** **Position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and field experience directly related to the occupation.**
**Preferred demonstrated experience in cradle to grave waste management is preferred to include characterization, profiling, packaging, storage, shipping and off-site treatment and disposal.**
**Desired Qualifications:**
**Federal and State Regulations:**
**Knowledge and experience with federal and state environmental and waste management regulations, policies, and procedures including but not limited to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments, Hazardous Waste Packaging and Transportation, and Radioactive Materials Shipping.**
**Additional Education and Certifications:**
**Advanced degree in a related field and certification and experience as an Advanced Hazardous Materials Radioactive Materials, and Mixed Waste Shipper as per 49 CFR requirements.**
**Safety and Security:**
**Knowledgeable of Integrated Work Management (IWM) and Integrated Safety and Security Management (ISSM) procedures. Knowledge of Classified Matter Protection and Control, Cyber Security, Q Clearance and Security Clearance responsibilities and HRP Manager Certification.**
**Work Environment:** **General work environment may include but is not limited to: outdoors, working alone, working extended shifts, operation of motor vehicles, R&D laboratory settings with corresponding chemicals and hazards.**
**Work Location:** **The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.**
**Position commitment:** **Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. **Clearance: Q** (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

**New-Employment Drug Test:** The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

**Incentive Compensation Program:** Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
