GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of the Manager - Nutrition Program - WIC, this position involves applying community health principles and nutritional knowledge in clinic, home, and community settings. Additionally, the position includes assessing and interpreting anthropometric data for participants, while sharing all information in a professional and non-judgmental manner.

This position exercises no supervision.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Conduct nutritional assessments to evaluate developmental feeding appropriateness for infants, children, pregnant individuals, and breastfeeding participants.
Screen program participants, assess nutritional needs, determine appropriate supplemental food packages, and provide individualized counseling with follow-up evaluations as necessary.
Deliver individual and group education sessions on breastfeeding basics, general nutrition topics, and nutrition-related health concerns.
Refer participants to medical, social, or emergency services within the public health district and community when needed.
Conduct hands-on food demonstration classes to educate participants.
Operate a city vehicle bi-monthly to attend community outreach events and organize health fairs.
OTHER JOB-RELATED DUTIES
Provide training to improve home safety and sanitation practices for individuals, families, and community groups.
Provide services to program participants to assist them with parenting and family relations.
Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge of:
Principles of human food and nutrition.
Child development and family relations, management of home and family resources, housing and household equipment.

Operate scales and measurement board.
Operate audio-visual equipment including TV, projectors, and VCR.

Maintain accurate inventories and records.

Experience and Training Guidelines:
For positions with more than one level, all listed requirements at the lower levels are required at the higher levels. Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:
Experience:
One (1) year of professional experience in the food and nutrition field is preferred.
Education/Training:
A Bachelor's degree in food science, nutrition, or a related field from an accredited college or university, including a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours in nutrition is required.
Coursework in child development, family relations, and consumer science education are preferred.
License or Certificate:
A valid Texas driver's license, the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment or a military waiver is required.
Special Requirements:
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
Bloodborne Pathogens training and HIPAA Compliance training are required within sixty (60) days of employment.
