Job Description:
Job DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Workers' Compensation Attorney, with additional experience in insurance defense to join our team and help us continue to deliver exceptional legal counsel to our clients. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in defending workers' compensation claims, with a focus on insurance defense. The attorney will manage a caseload from inception to resolution, including handling hearings, depositions, legal research, motions, and settlement negotiations. The position requires strong communication skills, the ability to work independently, and the capacity to handle a high volume of cases efficiently. Key Responsibilities:
  • Represent clients in workers' compensation matters before administrative agencies, including the Kansas and Missouri Workers' Compensation Divisions.
  • Defend insurance carriers, self-insured employers, and third-party administrators in workers' compensation claims.
  • Manage all aspects of a case, including legal research, drafting pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, and trial preparation.
  • Negotiate settlements and settlements offers with opposing counsel and claimants.
  • Attend hearings, mediations, and trials as needed.
  • Provide legal advice and strategy to clients regarding risk management and litigation avoidance.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient case management system.
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law in both Kansas (KS) and Missouri (MO).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in workers' compensation insurance defense.
  • Experience in litigation, including depositions, motions, and trial preparation.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Ability to handle a high-volume caseload and work independently.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and client management skills.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to meet deadlines.
