Salary : $37,793.60 - $54,787.20 Annually Location : City of Midlothian, TX Job Type: Full Time Job Number: 2324-00502 Department: Engineering (17) Division: WTP 2 - Auger (39) Opening Date: 09/03/2024 Closing Date: Continuous Position SummaryStarting Hiring Range: $37,793.60 - 46280.00, annually Under general supervision, this position performs sludge removal and processing, assists with water plant maintenance, and maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) buildings and grounds. Essential Job Functions
  • Removes sludge by utilizing valves and clari-vacs systems.
  • Processes sludge by adding polymer to dewater drying beds.
  • Removes dried sludge from drying beds and stockpiles it for removal from the plant.
  • Pressure washes drying beds with fire hoses.
  • Assists with water related maintenance, repairs equipment, and performs oil changes on vehicles.
  • Assists with the upkeep of grounds and facilities by mowing, trimming, painting equipment, and sweeping and mopping floors.
  • Collects work orders and assigns projects from the WTP Maintenance Supervisor, Chief Operator, Assistant Chief Operator, and Plant Manager.
  • Acts on behalf of the WTP Maintenance Supervisor in their absence, and may be assigned to oversee specific tasks of the WTP Maintenance Worker I position.
  • Ensures work orders and projects are finished in a timely manner.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience High school diploma or GED equivalent, is required. Minimum of one (1) year experience in general maintenance or plumbing is required. Experience in a similar role with a municipality, is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of city and departmental practices, procedures, systems, and federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, ordinances, and best practices relating water treatment plant maintenance.
  • Ability to perform repairs and oil changes on equipment.
  • Ability to operate and maintain light equipment, power tools, and hand tools.
  • Skill in utilizing valves and clari-vacs, lawn equipment, and fire hoses.
  • Knowledge of safe handling procedures of hazardous chemicals and materials.
  • Ability to follow instructions, safety practices, and perform work accurately and thoroughly which requires performing multiple tasks simultaneously under time pressures and deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively supervise staff in a proactive, appropriate, and productive manner.
  • Ability to regularly interact with others and exchange and receive of information, providing effective and tactful customer service, and work independently with a high level of discretion.
  • Knowledge of and ability to correctly interpret, explain, and apply laws, rules, operations, practices, procedures, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to allocate and utilize limited resources in a cost-effective manner.
  • Knowledge, skill, and ability to utilize telephone, fax machines, computers and applicable software including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, and Laserfiche.
  • Ability to interact with people in a professional and congenial manner.
  • Ability to be organized and have efficient management of time and deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, effective, and concise manner, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all people.
  • Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly.
Special RequirementsMobility within a field and outdoor environment is required. Subject to be on-call during non-working hours. Must be available to work during severe weather events. This position is classified as a DOT position and is subject to regulated random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment. Licenses and CertificationsWater Class D license is preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record as established by the City of Midlothian driving standards. Class A Commercial Driver's License is required or must be obtained within one (1) year of employment. Work EnvironmentConsiderable exposure to various disagreeable elements. Includes continuous and frequent exposure to weather conditions. Position requires heavy lifting up to 100 lbs., carrying, lifting, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, and reaching, climbing, and kneeling.
