Description The Yard Hand is responsible for assisting with carrying out tasks required to successfully achieve the service department objectives. Silver Spring is a great small yard with a tight knit crew. We host a close relationship with Marine Max providing new boat preparations for delivery as well was warranty work on Boston Whaler and Sea Ray boats. Factory training in Mercury and Yamaha outboards available for motivated employees. Get the chance to work on some of the newest technology in the boating industry. This seasonable job can be transformed to full time employment based on work ethic and motivation! Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Haul, block and launch boats
- Perform general boat maintenance and service work to include, but not limited to: washing and waxing, bottom painting, oil changes and zinc replacement
- Work closely with the Yard Foreman and assist fellow crewmembers as needed
- Operate yard machinery including 35-Ton Travelift, 20-Ton hydraulic trailer, forklift, power washer, etc.
- Grounds maintenance and marina cleanliness
- Availability to work overtime when required
- Training available for Mercury, Mercruiser, and Yamaha
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisor
- Other duties as assigned by manager
Must be willing to work overtime during spring and fall rush seasons. Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
- Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training
- Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area
- Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately
Technical and Physical Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous marina experience preferred
- Heavy forklift experience a plus
- Ability to ascend and descend a ladder
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Basic boat handling skills a plus
