SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to
- Set up lawn games in the large schoolyard and instruct students and families on how to play and use the equipment
- Engage community members in understanding the rules and taking accountability for caring for the communal yard space
- Outreach and recruit participants and adult volunteers
- Plan and facilitate quality instruction that fosters community building
- Participate with children and adults in activities such as sports and art
- Help participants grow and develop as individuals and bond as a group
- Guide children's development and help them relate to each other and to adults
- Contribute to the planning and execution of special events and other community-building activities
II. QUALIFICATIONS
- Education/Degree minimum requirement: High School Diploma or Equivalency Diploma
- Years of Experience: currently in College or 2 years of experience working with children
- Age: 21 years old or older, preferred
- Strong Youth Development background
- Must love children, working in groups, and being part of a community
- Must be organized, have attention to detail, and care for play equipment and program materials
- Flexibility and the ability to work well as a member of a team
- Interested in managing and creating positive experiences for groups of youth, including participants with special needs and challenging behaviors
- Desire to share and build personal and interpersonal skills with participants
- Ability to set limits and maintain the helping role of practitioner and to intervene appropriately
- Confident, strong sense of authority, and engaging with adults and children
- Strong community-building, conflict-resolution, and engagement skills
- Bilingual Spanish or Chinese required

IV. WORKING CONDITIONS
- Outdoors from September until the end of November and April until June
- Actively engage and interact with children each day
- May be required to be active by walking, bending, standing, squatting or sitting on the floor with children
- Setting up, breaking down, and caring for gym and yard equipment
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high energy level
- May be exposed to all weather conditions and might be required to work in various temperatures in order to facilitate activities in various locations inside and outside of the school building
