Job DetailsJob LocationBronx, NYPosition TypeFull-Time/Part-TimeEducation LevelHigh SchoolSalary Range$20.00 - $22.00 HourlyDescriptionGENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Safe Haven for Children Program is a 24-hour shelter and transitional foster care program that serves unaccompanied children (UCs) in immigration custody who are awaiting release to their sponsors. The Youth Care Worker AKA Child Care Worker is responsible for ensuring the minors are receiving appropriate nutrition, leisure, and recreational activities. They supervise the minors at all times, maintaining required supervision ratio and ensure all minors are accounted for.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Monitor and supervise young persons at all times.Perform all duties of caring for children including ability and willingness to change diapers, conduct lice checks and treatment, and care for children with potentially communicable illnesses.Assist in meal preparation for young persons, ensuring proper maintenance of food safety certifications.Guide young persons on activities of daily living, including good personal hygiene or self- administering medication.Arrange and accompany young persons to external appointments and recreational activities as assigned.Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including but not limited to HIPAA and program confidentiality requirements.Enforce all safety rules and regulations in accordance with agency policies and procedures and ensure that young persons comply with established house rules.Record in full detail all pertinent information in applicable databases and logs prior to ending each shift including but not limited to transportation logs, activity logs, medication logs, UAC movement logs, Daily Checklists, and visitor logs; debrief appropriately with next shift.Document and report all major and minor incidents in accordance with agency policies and procedures.Pick up young persons from airport or other transportation hubs and bring them to shelter.Escort young persons from shelter to airport or domestic destination (fly-outs) to reunify with family or other approved sponsors throughout the U.S.Arrange transportation for and escort minors to medical services, health screening, and mental health assessment of young persons.Ensure that unit keys, tablets, and phones remain in the possession of staff members only.Provide a stable, abuse- and drug-free environment.Comply with all mandated training and certifications.Perform other duties as required by direct supervisor or needs of the program/agency.On-call 24 hours (where applicable).Assist in overall maintenance of facilitiesQualificationsEDUCATION:High School Diploma/GED or relevant certification as determined by programBilingual in English and SpanishLiterate in EnglishEXPERIENCE:One years experience working with youth in a child welfare settingSKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER:Drivers LicenseGood communication and writing skillsAbility to work collaboratively with young persons and co-workersKnowledgeable about working with immigrant youthSuperior organizational skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; resourceful; ability to manage time effectively and multi-taskAbility to exercise enormous amount of patience and good judgmentKnowledgeable about appropriate ACS/OCFS regulations regarding disciplinary actionsExperience and facility with Microsoft Office ApplicationsAbility to work flexible hours as needed, including holidays, weekends, and overnights.Must be able to lift/carry 30 lbs. with or without assistance
