Position: Youth Education Coordinator Department: Youth ServicesReports to: Youth Academy Supervisor Compensation: $63,500 - $70,555 (Grade 6)Status: 100%, Full-Time, ExemptProbation: 180 DaysBenefits: Medical, Dental, Vision. also including Life Insurance, Long-Term Disability, Employee Assistance Program, and a 403(b) Retirement PlanCenter's Mission:Building a world where LGBT people thrive as healthy, equal, and complete members of society.DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Youth Center serves youth up to the age of 24 who are currently at-risk of or experiencing homelessness. The Youth Center offers services in an LGBTQ+ safe and affirming environment and serves as an entry point to assist youth making the transition from homelessness to housing. Our services include meals, clothing, support groups, a charter high school, GED and college prep program, an employment preparation, training and placement program, case management, counseling, a crisis shelter and a transitional living program (TLP). Our community-based programs include services for youth at-home, in school or in systems of care. JOB SUMMARY: The Youth Education Coordinator develops, implements, and coordinates the GED/High School, postsecondary, and general education programs for LGBTQ young adults aged 14 to 24 years at the Youth Center.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Work with clients to develop their individualized education plans including GED, high school, postsecondary education enrollment, and life skills planning. Facilitate direct education services for youth, including conducting interviews and assessments, developing lesson plans, assigning lessons, tutoring clients, grading tests, and administering action plans. Develop postsecondary educational programming specific to individual youth plans. Provide and coordinate college preparation and support that includes individual college counseling, aptitude assessment, college research, campus tours, class auditing, scholarship exploration, obtaining transcripts, assisting with college registration and application processes, applying for financial aid, assisting with the scheduling of coursework, and providing tutoring and continued support. Provide wrap-around support and resources to clients to help ensure all aspects of their education plans are followed and provide feedback as required. Cultivate and sustain strategic partnerships with educational agencies including, but not limited to, LAUSD, Five Keys and LACC. Arrange and oversee educational field trips, visiting speakers, education groups, and other activities and engagements such as the annual College Week event. Manage the Education Program's technology lending program, facilitate orientation and distribution sessions, and maintain weekly equipment check-ins Track data and indicators for client enrollment participation and progress. Monitor individual client and program performance to ensure that deliverables are being met, and prepare reports as required and ensure that they are accurate, complete and submitted on time. Participate in internal and external meetings and events to promote community collaboration, to stay fully aware of the current education landscape and to identify opportunities for the education program and youth. Other duties as assigned. JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people. A passion for the Center's work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people. 2-3 years of experience in Education, Psychology, Behavioral Science, or equivalent education. A minimum of 1 year experience in an educational environment as an instructor, tutor, or counselor. A minimum of 2 years' experience in a social service or related setting. Experience working with youth experiencing homelessness and at-risk youth. Willing to work a flexible schedule including some weekends and evenings. Excellent computer skills including word processing, database operations, spreadsheets, and other software systems. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational and interpersonal skills with a high level of attention to detail. Leadership skills evidenced by ability to work independently and coordinate the successful completion of projects. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish fluency) preferred. Valid California Driver's License with no restrictions and ability to obtain insurance. Current CPR Certificate. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
