Title: Youth Respite Mentor located in Middletown, Orange County, NY

Reports to: Developmental Disabilities Family Support Services Supervisor

Job Objective:

Provide respite/skill building services for families with children/youth who are referred by Orange County Children's Single Point of Access (SPOA).

Perform duties while actively promoting an environment consistent with MHA's

Cultural Equity Policy and WELCOME Orange.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete all MHA and program specific mandatory trainings.
  • Provide respite and/or skill building in the home or community, as identified by the parent/guardian, youth and/or Respite Plan. Skill training can include, but is not limited to, the following: socialization and communication skills, housekeeping/chores, personal hygiene, grooming, health promotion, money management, personal safety, leisure time, school attendance, personal responsibility, and problem resolution.
  • Provide possible overnight respite in the family's home or community service agency.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and data entry into the agency's Electronic Health Records System.
  • Report any identifiable instances of child abuse and neglect to supervisor and appropriate authorities.
  • Communicate with supervisor as necessary and/or required.
  • Protect confidentiality and endure program participants' rights according to HIPAA.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • High School or GED/HSE diploma.
  • Eighteen (18) years of age for daytime and twenty-one (21) years or older for overnight services.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working with youth with serious emotional disturbance and/or developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment under crisis situations and maintain confidentiality.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to drive with current driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage.
  • Must be cleared under the State Central Registry.

Terms of Employment/Benefits:

Per Diem.
