Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Zoo Director, the Resource Development Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative and programmatic support for Hutchinson Zoo's fundraising and volunteer development activities. Duties include but are not limited to membership coordination; volunteer on-boarding; special event planning; and assisting with capital campaign fundraising, donor and partnership cultivation and grant writing. This position also serves as a close liaison with the Hutchinson Friends of the Zoo (FOTZ) Board. The Resource Development Coordinator works closely with the Zoo Director, Zoo Leadership and Friends of the Zoo Board Members to strategize and establish a holistic approach that includes donor identification and acquisition, retention, recognition, and development. Resource development is comprised of a variety of types of support, including, but not limited to, financial support through donations, sponsorships, grants, fundraising events and capital campaigns, in-kind donations, sponsorships, human capital - staff training, development and volunteer onboarding and oversight. This position collaborates with the Guest Service Coordinator to support gift shop sales and staffing. A DAY IN THE LIFE: FUNDRAISING

  • Plan and execute fundraising activities in support of the Zoo's mission and goals
  • Act as a liaison to the Hutchinson Friends of the Zoo (FOTZ) Board in the interest of fundraising and sponsorship activities.
  • Help plan and execute fundraising and community events.
  • Facilitate quarterly/monthly orientation for new volunteers.
  • Coordinate and lead volunteers/groups for events.
  • Identify, solicit and manage sponsorships for activities and events.
  • Advertise, recruit and coordinate facility and grounds rentals.
  • Assist with grant research, application, and reports.
  • Help create and execute fundraising campaigns.
  • Assist with ordering and oversight of the Zoo's gift shop.
DONATIONS
  • Solicit, acquire and coordinate donations (financial and in-kind)
  • Work closely with the FOTZ board and Zoo Director to cultivate donors and sponsors.
  • Research, collect and curate information on donors and maintain records.
  • Coordinate donation requests and receipt of funds, items, and/or services.
  • Thank donors consistently and creatively.
  • Plan and facilitate VIP tours and donor engagement opportunities as needed.
  • Manage donor recognition and tributes throughout grounds (benches, bricks, pergolas, rocks etc.)
MARKETING
  • Promote Zoo to recruit members and bring people to the zoo.
  • Submit news releases and e-blasts related to organizational happenings.
  • Collaborate with Education Coordinator update and improve presence on social media and website.
  • Work with Zoo Director and Education Coordinator to create an annual social media plan.
  • Work with FOTZ board and Zoo director to implement marketing and advertising campaigns.
  • Prepare, post and share campaign videos and photos and distribute materials.
MEMBERSHIP
  • Recruit, engage and retain members to broaden support for the Zoo's mission and programs.
  • Organize membership recruitment campaigns and keep membership database up-to-date.
  • Engage members to become more involved in the zoo through donations or volunteerism.
  • Update members on current happenings, successes, and outcomes.
  • Help plan and implement member-only tours/events.
  • Facilitate quarterly e-newsletter and other e-news blasts.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
  • Help coordinate the Zoo calendar, including programs, rentals and events.
  • Coordinate and attend FOTZ board meetings.
  • Understand the operation of the train and the schedule of train volunteers.
  • Prepare monthly and annual activity and financial reports for FOTZ board meetings and publication.
  • Assist with planning and managing the FOTZ budget and finances.
  • Coordinate with FOTZ Treasurer for monthly and annual financial reconciliation, taxes, and audits.
  • Work with Zoo and City leadership and the FOTZ board to develop organizational goals and plans.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and coordination of volunteers.
  • Monitors and manages inventory of supplies for this position.
  • Answer phones and emails and provide accurate information promptly.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED FOR SUCCESS:EDUCATION: A Bachelor's degree from a college or university, with a preference toward majors in Marketing, Communications or a related field. EXPERIENCE: Two more years of successfully supporting fundraising activities and teams. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES: Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas Driver's License and acceptable driving record. WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, must be able to work some evenings and weekends as needed for events. The City of Hutchinson employs 400 employees that serve our community every day.
