Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations
Nature of Work
The fundamental reasonthis position exists isto protect property, visitors, employees, the Montgomery Zoo animal collection,and provide enforcement of security rules and regulations.The work responsibilities of this positionare: provide general security of the zoo grounds, interact and provide customerservice to patrons, staff, and zoo visitors; investigate and take action onalarms sounded and unusual situations, observes and assist with animal careincluding feeding, cleaning and general husbandry of the live animalcollections of the zoo. Due to the nature of work, this position is very laborintensive. The Zoo Security Officer receives direct supervision from the Zoo SecuritySupervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or G.E.D. and six monthsexperience in security work, protecting persons and property.NOTE:Qualifying education, training, and experiencethat provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the jobwill be considered.
Special Requirements
Work will consist of nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to obtain and maintain a validAlabama driver's license and insurable driving record to drive city vehicles withinsixty days of employment. Must submit toa background check due to the nature of the position.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Must be able to walk, stand, and remain alert for theduration of the assigned shift as needed to perform security duties and patrolassigned areas. Must be able to climb stairs and a ladder at a height of 14feet as needed to perform inspections of the interior and exterior of thefacility. Must be willing to work outside as needed to perform securityduties. Mustbe able to tolerate working under difficult conditions to include extreme heatand cold. Must be able to meet deadlines as needed to care for animalcollection, maintain exhibits and security needs of the Zoo. Must be able tostoop, climb, walk, run and crawl. Must be able to lift heavy objectssuch as food bundles, hay, or food bags weighing up to 60 poundsunassisted.
